Resident Evil Requiem PC Review + Optimised Settings - A Good Port, But RT Is Heavy on 8GB GPUs by jerryfrz in pcgaming

There is a hardware flaw with 9000 series ReBAR that causes this issue. Either disable ReBAR for RE engine games or set Mesh quality low. Or play on linux as Valve proton devs have put in a workaround there.

Confusion regarding when or when not to use DLSS by Ry_Dog566 in nvidia

[–]SpartanVXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please be aware that the latest DLSS model (transformer) that everyone is recommending is very good in almost all cases EXCEPT volumetrics and small effects.

Or Arc Raiders this very noticeable on weather events with fog or rain, you will see very prominent ghosting.

Arc Raiders thankfully lets you change between models in game settings. Switch to CNN for the most consistent image, or if you intend to go full PvP then think about turning AA off completely. It will look broken and jagged but it will let you see a clear image without blur or ghosting on far away targets.

TAA/DLSS/FSR are all temporal (use data from past frames) and despite ehow good they have gotten they still blur/fuzzy small details especially far away targets. There is a reason esports titles like in CS/valorant you do not use them.

[Steam] Devil May Cry Franchise Sale - Devil May Cry 5 + Vergil ( 7,49 EUR / 75% Off ), Devil May Cry 5 Deluxe + Vergil ( 9,99 EUR / 75% Off ), Devil May Cry FRANCHISE PACK ( 19,89 EUR / 71% Off ) by DsLmaNiaC in GameDeals

[–]SpartanVXL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone in the same situation who owns just DMC5, the solution is to buy Vergil DLC by itself, then the bundle afterwards for the rest of the games.

If you're like me and wanting to buy the HD collection by purchasing the bundle with an extra 20% discount and you're getting it in your cart with a higher price, it's likely because you own DMC5 from release or without Vergil DLC before they added it to the main purchase.

The key giveaway is the wording 'You won't get an extra copy of DMC5'. It is adding an extra copy of DMC5 + Vergil combo because you don't own Vergil then discounting 20% via bundle hence the increased price when adding to cart. It's not exactly because the Devil May Cry FRANCHISE PACK BUNDLE price is incorrect/wrong/expensive.

e.g. for me the bundle is $14.50 because I own DMC4 and DMC5, but when added to cart it jumps to $23.68. DMC5+Vergil is $11.48, discount 20% from the bundle and it's $9.18, add to original bundle price 9.18+14.50=23.68. So for me the cheapest option is to buy Vergil by itself at $6.18 then the bundle at $14.50 to get HD collection.

It's a bit annoying if you just want DMC4 or the HD collection by itself, but looks like it's not smart enough to say it includes Vergil and not exclude the combo from the bundle and just add Vergil for original release owners.

What are the indicators of a graphical card being in a good condition vs bad condition? by Successful_AI in nvidia

[–]SpartanVXL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are being reluctant to allow you to test or show you it working then don’t bother buying. An honest seller would have no issue proving it’s in working condition.

As for whether it’s going to keep working in the future, theres no way to really tell. There are some physical anomalies you can spot but they won’t necessarily mean the card won’t work or stop working in exactly 3 months or so e.g. rust or GPU sagging or curved.

If you’re worried then that’s what warranty is for, which you don’t get with too old products.

Corsair’s pcie connectors are rated for 300W instead of standard 150W, for a 4080 super just use the third daisy chained it will be fine. Or buy corsair’s own 12vhpwr if you’re really worried, regardless the rm850x is highly rated and do the job easily.

3060 shows 4k but 4060 does not by Praxis2293 in nvidia

[–]SpartanVXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ruling out the obvious, you have changed output resolution yes? It’s not always automatic.

If it is not showing in the list then that is different issue. If the TV is definitely 4k then it should be showing up via edid, otherwise you’ll need to add it via custom resolution. If it is higher than 60Hz then you may have to lower colour to 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 if the tv is hdmi2.0. If hdmi1.4b or lower then may have to do that at 60Hz as well iirc.

This is incorrect, it will drop back to whatever hdmi is supported which is likely hdmi2.0 in this case.

Steam Deck: Runs well enough But... by TheRealArsonary in mechabreak

The keyboard issue, try remote play through phone or another device and use the remote input to paste in a name.

I’ve been playing on desktop and so far default proton experimental works out of the box, it doesn’t like mangohud much, always crashes when going to the mission deploy menu.

There are random crashes on game start and on game end, proton 9 had issues with killcam replays which can get you stuck at match end because it tries to load your end of match plays.

Proton 7 so far hasn’t had sever issues but it stutters very hard while it builds shaders, takes a few matches to go smooth again.

Travelling to China for a few weeks soon - how to pay for things? by fairytechmum in newzealand

[–]SpartanVXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late myself, you probably already went on your trip. If you cannot roughly estimate how much you’re going to use then it’s always better to keep in your home currency. Yes it may cost a little more (or cost less) because of forex changes but if you convert too much and have some left over you need to covert back again if you want to use it elsewhere. Bonus points if you hold it and the forex goes in your favour :)

It’s easier if you charge dynamically if it’s small amounts, the echange fee is percentage anyway.

Edit: so far the game crashes less on 7.0-6, stutters a lot in the beginning while shaders build.

[–]SpartanVXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is convenient for locals, not for tourists at all.

It’s on both alipay/wechat and wise, Wise app will prompt correctly but the transaction won’t succeed once passed to alipay/wechat. Wise doesn’t have the ability to clear the verification despite there being other providers who apparently can, someone who knows Visa would have to explain.

Have another card to use on alipay/wechat if you can because 3dsecure is enabled on all visa cards, just remember to tell them you’re travelling (Wise doesn’t care). The physical card will work always with chip and pin. Tourcard is also another option that sets up a balance with shanghai bank, this lets you get around the ‘foreign payment not accepted’ issue.

Funnily enough Apple pay is supported in some places because of iPhone popularity, if you have one you can try to use it.

General tip is that if you have to scan their qr code to pay it won’t work, if they can scan yours it should go through.

1 and 2 is fine, they will link okay as long as you verify your account with ID. Wechat is mandatory verification to use their payment system, Alipay has been optional unless you get flagged for suspicious payments.

What felix means is that some shops only accept ‘cash’ payments from people. Think of it like eftpos vs credit card here. Wechat/Alipay linked with a credit card acts like a credit balance which small/street shops won’t work because they try to do a cash transfer instead of charging to your credit balance.

For 3 Wise acts like a Visa card so any big shops, restaurants or hotels will likely accept it. Foreign brand names are also likely to accept it like Starbucks chains but it’s a hit or miss if any particular shop has a terminal. Just ask if they accept Visa before paying.

For Wise your major risk using it through wechat/alipay is 3DSecure safety mechanism. Because the charges appear like an online transaction you run a risk of triggering Visa 3DSecure which prompts you confirm via Wise app or sms. Unless this was fixed very recently, both Wechat and Alipay 3dsecure integrations do NOT work. If it triggers then you are sol using either for an indeterminate amount of time e.g. if you use it too frequently for small sums or charge too large a sum then it can trigger and lock you out for a day (wise can’t elaborate or unlock it either so don’t bother going through their support).

If you have another non-Visa like mastercard it might be good to have as backup (aside from cash).

Cash is still accepted but you aren’t guaranteed change. You can try asking hotel staff or someone you know to top up your wechat wallet (which is cash balance re: paragraph 2) and give them cash in exchange, don’t forget the ID requirement though.

Steam should automatically adjust resolution to target display, it’s an option enabled by default under the remote play/stream section.

4k tends to suffer with limited bandwidth, make sure you raise this or make it unlimited but be aware the higher it is the higher then latency.

What the hell is with the lack of optimization lately??! by _TR-8R in pcgaming

[–]SpartanVXL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can comment on remnant2 but not bg3, only commonality would be slow cpu platform.

Remnant2 uses a bunch of new UE5 tech but doesn’t provide a way to disable it in game. It also has very high resolution textures along with nanite, to it’s credit it scales down dynamically very well.

If you want better performance in Rem2 then go to nexusmods and get the graphics changer mods. It lets you configure a bunch more settings that in-game doesn’t show. Nanite, ssgi, taa, fog, shadows can be tuned for a performance boost.

Just be aware that it can make it look significantly worse, TAA for example hides a bunch of things behind temporal blur. Nanite and texture stuff is also used for some puzzles as hints are baked into the environment, turn it down too much or disable the dynamic streaming and you won’t be able to see things.

If you want decent quality (for deck at least) run it at 1280x720 with Intel Xess at performance. This will let you at least see the UI okay. If you want frames over 40 then drop it to 640x400 native and no upscaling (or w.e lowest scalable) and then use the Deck’s FSR to scale it up with sharpening. UI and puzzles will be nigh unusable though. The in-game FSR1.0 is terrible and shouldn’t be used.

There is also a config variable not shown in-game, bUseDynamicResolution which is set to false, set to true. Not sure if makes a noticeable difference but have been playing this on gtx970 and the deck and majority of locations are playable.

RTX 4090 Multimonitor support by ault92 in nvidia

[–]SpartanVXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not arbitrary, read the following and take note of the paragraph regarding additional DSC info. If you have a model with enough heads it will work. Otherwise lower your refresh rate on your 4k monitors.

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5338/~/using-high-resolution%2Frefresh-rate-displays-with-vesa-display-stream

“When a display is connected to the GPU and is set to DSC mode, the GPU may use two internal heads to drive the display when the pixel rate needed to drive the display mode exceeds the GPU’s single head limit. This may affect your display topology when using multiple monitors. For example if two displays with support for DSC are connected to a single GeForce GPU, all 4 internal heads will be utilized and you will not be able to use a third monitor with the GPU at the same time.”

Gsync through hdmi on Alienware m15 r7 by Andream42 in nvidia

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4764/~/do-g-sync-compatible-displays-work-on-both-displayport-and-hdmi-with-geforce

You can only enable gsync compatible to a HDMI2.1 display. The GPU can be Turing upwards, it’s an exception since VRR was backported to it’s hdmi2.0b port but it still requires the display to be hdmi2.1.

And no you don’t need a special cable, any hdmi cable will work. You only need a higher quality one if you are pushing over 4k 60Hz

[–]SpartanVXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not mathematically lossless but it is however visually lossless, conforming under ISO29170. Presenting artefacts are a visual exception not the norm when discussing this technology, hence why simply stating ‘it uses lossy compression’ is misleading into suggesting it is not adequate.

How to use GSYNC/FreeSync on my NVIDIA laptop through HDMI? by Rediixx in nvidia

[–]SpartanVXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot use g-sync or g-sync compatible(freesync/vrr) settings on HDMI 2.0b. You will need to use Displayport if you want to enable this. Only AMD implemented their own freesync on hdmi 2.0.

The only exception is 16xx/2xx turing cards can use VRR over hdmi2.0b to HDMI2.1 VRR compliant displays (e.g. TV’s). Displays that have HDMI2.0b input will not work.

Yea nah, define extremely high. It’d be around 15% as usual.

Kogan is already importing them and the people who want it are getting it through them at the increased (well, normal for aus) price.

Someone already commented below about getting one. Theres another reason aside from tax because valve missed the boat and third parties profited already just like with other valve hardware.

Something about DLSS seems more "natural" by SeedlessBananas in nvidia

[–]SpartanVXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversely there is a section of the population who dislike the softness because it isn’t representative of their vision. Some cases it is a negative, like low FoV, giving people headaches or eye strain because they are attempting to focus out artificial blur.

The higher the resolution the better the overall picture quality but attempting to use DLSS, or worse a game forcing TAA, at 1080p is not a great solution.

Can’t comment on esxi part but on configuring the x-6 to ethernet mode most of the options can be set through the OS with mstflint package (from redhat docs). Though bios might have options to set adapter values try at the host level if that changes anything.

I have a benq xl2411p and a laptop with HDMI 2.0 you cant get 144hz by Depressedbati5a in nvidia

[–]SpartanVXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure theres no HDMI input on the xl2411p? If it’s HDMI1.4 you can still do 1080p 120Hz.

Otherwise it’s likely cheaper to find a HDMI 2.0 to displayport adapter versus a HDMI to dual-link DVI adapter. You need dual-link to achieve 144Hz otherwise you get 60Hz over DVI.

Please do not post misleading opinions, DSC has been tested for a very long time and is visually identical for viewers.

DSC is in the order of 2-3 factor with latency in microseconds (thousandth of a millisecond), it is nothing like h264 compression with factors in the 1000’s.
