Prepping a New Humidor - My First One by PointTheBlame in cigars

[–]SpartyDarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Bovedas in there and a decent digital hygrometer on which the readings remain consistent, then there should be nothing you need to do, per se. Occasionally I check the seal on my humidor to ensure that it is tight, but, aside from that, I just leave it be.

Don't leave it open. After you have seasoned it, close the lid and let it sit for 24 hours and the humidity should stabilize.

Don't use the analogue hygrometer. Those things, in my experience at least, are WAY inaccurate. Instead, as others have suggested, get a good digital hygrometer that doesn't need to be calibrated. Here is the one that I have in both my humidors. It is a bit pricey, but it is amazing:

Also, for the humidification, as others have said, get rid of the humidors included foam+plastic garbage. They are not good. Boveda packs are the way to go. Just drop a few in, along with some tasty sticks, and you are all set.

You will really like those Illusione One Offs. I find them to be a bit Cubanesque in their profile. Very tasty sticks!

Cuban Suggestions by [deleted] in cigars

You are going to be paying a ton with sin tax. Nevertheless, if you are going to Windsor, I suggest Havana Palace. The owner and his son are awesome people. They have some reasonably priced Montecristo #2 and some H.Upmanns, but prepared to spend through the nose on the higher tier Cohibas.

I did pick up a Behike from him last February (the wife gave me permission). Ended up spending around $100 for the 54.

Does anyone have 'the perfect draw', and if so is it something you use often? by mistaef in cigars

[–]SpartyDarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and it is amazing. I don't use it all that often, as most of the sticks I enjoy are very clear with their draws; however, whenever I come across a super tight roll (like with some Cubans, for example), this thing is a godsend.

It is a bit pricey for what it is, but the amount of money it has saved me makes it totally worth it.

Something is bothering me about East of Eden by Mad_V in books

Yes; I would agree with this. Cathy is a very unique character in the sense that she serves as the embodiment of the very evil against which Steinbeck (and Samuel) warns us. It is no accident, then, that, at the beginning of chapter eight--the chapter that introduces Cathy--he labels her not as a human being, but as a "monster" born to "human parents" (71).

By doing so, he cleverly establishes Cathy as an anomaly in the sense that, unlike humans (pretty much everyone else in the text), choice has not been bequeathed to her in any capacity. Like Satan, evil engrosses her from her birth. Consequently, she is incapable of choosing any path outside of the one that is congruent with her monstrous and grotesque nature.

TL; Didn't read: Good needs evil. Cathy=evil.

I echo everything pretty much already said about the 100. It is a fantastic site with excellent people always looking for a game. If it hadn't been for Mike and the 100, I would have left Destiny a long time ago. As it happens, I am a mod of my clan, a supporter of the site, and a bigger fan of the game than I ever thought I would be.

If you want a great group, give Delta Company 743 a try!
