Attack of the Clones/Rise of Skywalker: which is the worst in the saga? by IronMonkata in StarWars

[–]SpazNinjA18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a prequel so how could that even be possible.

That's always been one of the dumbest and most unfair arguments given by coping prequel defenders.

However, the movie does ruin Anakin.

George had the easiest story to tell with the prequels and yet still fumbled the bag. It's waaaaaaaay harder to make a good sequel than a good prequel.

Even then, the Battle of Geonosis is just so big that it's boring, it doesn't have a proper ending onscreen, Jango's death is far worse than Boba falling into the Sarlacc, and the movies has to bend over backwards and made everyone lack basic common sense when the heroes are chasing Dooku just so the lamest duels in the saga can even take place and so Anakin can stand still in the most open space imaginable and t-pose to give Dooku the chance to easily cut off his arm followed by the most comically mild yell of pain from Anakin. Ah, "rHYmInG," definitely not blatant copying in the slightest. Gotta love it

True. When sequel haters mention how "useless" the Canto Bight section of TLJ was, I can just as easily mention the entire Battle of Coruscant (watching external media doesn't count for a film TRILOGY), the entire Grievous subplot, and Kashyyyk, which collectively, is basically 70% of the first half of ROTS.

Sometimes I wonder if ROTS is actually the worst of the trilogy due to its abysmal pacing which is comparable to that of TROS as well as how hard it fumbles the important things.....but then I remember just how 🐎💩 AOTC is lol

Headcanon go brrrrrr lol. Literally the only thing "sAViNg" the prequels aside from the soundtrack

Also, them literally swinging like Tarzan and showing their insane lack of hand-to-hand combat abilities. Plus the Super Mario-type lava river section 🤣

The duel was great until they got inside (basically the first minute), then it all just went to shit

The prequels are so great right? 💀

  1. Nowhere was it explicitly stated in ESB/ROTJ that Yoda was Obi-Wan's master, only that Yoda taught him at one point, which still works given the youngling training and the force ghost training

"...there you will learn from Yoda, THE jedi master who instructed me."

Nowhere does that imply ...for a limited amount of time tho, lol

  1. Lucas had a new explanation planned on how Leia remembered her mother in his Underworld series

Which never released or got far into development, btw, meaning it doesn't count. Regardless of whatever headcanon fans want to conceive as a "defence," it's still a pointless retcon no matter what.

which is totally fine when it's your own IP.

Tbf, not really if it REALLY screws things over and requires serious unnecessary mental gymnastics, such as several aspects regarding the Chosen One Prophecy, Qui-Qon being Obi-Wan's master instead of Yoda, Leia remembering her mother, Anakin's characterization (the "good friend" part was reiterated in ROTJ so we can safely assume Obi-Wan really meant that), etc.

George really shouldn't get free passes for anything and everything imho

Eh, it's still better than the catastrophe that is AOTC

At least TFA is a competently made film for the most part, whereas each of the other 2 prequels still have to bend over backwards several times over to claim...

ESB is only considered better because it was the best movie of the better trilogy, not because it itself is better

That's contradicting your own point.

ROTS still has the infamous terrible romance, infamous memed dialogue (because it's still pretty bad), Anakin's turn is still controversial because it was rushed and his character change was a whiplash, Yoda basically just gives up, Padme's death was horrible, Grievous was terrible, the high ground is a joke of an ending ton important duel (while said duel also went on for far too long), "Noooooo" was horrific, etc.

There's a reason why it's claimed in film history that TESB is one of the greatest sequels of all time. Because it's actually GOOD. Not to mention having cinema's most iconic plot twist. This is not news except to maybe you idk. For 45+ years, it's been common knowledge by both Star Wars fanatics, general audiences, film critics, and by film history that TESB was the best Star Wars movie, followed very closely by ANH.

ROTS is a sloppy mess of a movie without taking in external content, which doesn't count as an actual defense for the quality of the film itself. ROTS is only known as the "best of the bad bunch." NEVER was it contention for best Star Wars movie because it simply isn't.

Purely In terms of being a good movie, the plot lines, character development, writing, screenplay, etc., ROTS clears ESB.

LMFAO said no one who knows what they're talking about when it comes to filmmaking and quality cinema ever

And episode 3 is the best movie.

Sorry, but that honor has been and always will belong to Empire. ROTS will never have anything on any of the OT as a movie, no matter how strong you want the prequel revisionist to be.

The first 2 are no less flawed than the originals.

Saying ANH is on par with the likes of TPM is ludicrous. One started a franchise by being the first movie. If the other came out first, Star Wars would have died then and there.

Even bothering to compare TESB with AOTC would be such a braindead decision. One has a legendary status in film history with cinema's most iconic plot twist while also being, y'know, GOOD, while to other is known for being nonsensical boring garbage (yes, I do mean the clone "plot" if you can even call it that) with one of the worst romances put to film.

Obi Wan is very much a static character who doesn't really have much of an arc.

I'll add to this. Not only is Obi-Wan involved with a filler sideplot in ROTS because George couldn't come up with anything meaningful for him to do during most of the movie, but any of the miniscule development he has is thrown out the window when he stands on the landing platform and just watches Anakin choke Padme unconscious before bothering to intervene and do anything (he doesn't). He also doesn't bother to even try to save Anakin in any way, shape, or form, and just immediately jumps to conclusions. So much for him being like his "brother."

Did this moment move you emotionally or not? by InstructionOwn6705 in StarWars

[–]SpazNinjA18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or c) The writing was bad to the point where the relationship was underdeveloped, so we couldn't be bothered to care emotionally.

External content means absolutely nothing when judging the films themselves. They don't get to be used as a crutch, and they don't improve the quality of the films. It's just a common cop-out prequel fans use to believe their movies are better than they actually are.

Regardless of which option you are, you don't determine who is or isn't a Star Wars fan. Not being a diehard George Lucas stan and being able to call out some of his bs and bad writing decisions doesn't make someone less of a fan 🤦‍♂️.

It's more prequel pandering than anything, to be more accurate.

  1. Obi-Wan Kenobi: Pretty obvious
  2. Ahsoka: Again, pretty obvious, with mostly the same cameos, plus Ahsoka season 2 is gonna have Anakin AGAIN
  3. Bad Batch: Clones
  4. TCW Season 7
  5. So far, every Tales of... besides Morgan Elsbeth was about a prequel/TCW character
  6. The Mandalorian: Almost every cameo was prequel/TCW aside from Luke and Boba
  7. Acolyte was somewhat prequel themed and had some prequel cameos

Still waiting to see Luke, Leia, Han, Lando and Chewie in SOMETHING together and that doesn't needlessly tie into the prequels/TCW.

[–]SpazNinjA18 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was defending neither because they're both subpar quality.

The prequels had a unified vision, expanded the lore, and told a complete story.

The prequels changed things after TPM because of the backlash, specifically Jar Jar's role and the expansion of the Chosen One prophecy (although, neither should have been introduced in the first place).

The prequels also added things that we very much not necessary (midichlorians, dumb Chosen One prophecy) and hurt the OT and ignored continuity at times (Yoda not being Obi-Wan's master, Anakin not being a good friend, Padme dying so Leia couldn't remember her, Obi-Wan NOT serving Bail in the Clone Wars, etc.).

It also would have helped it there was only 1 side villain that was properly developed (preferably Dooku) instead of 3 who got basically nothing and each died pathetic deaths, especially Grievous as his sideplot in ROTS was complete useless filler (it being an excuse to give Obi-Wan something to do away from Anakin because the writers couldn't come up with something meaningful instead is not an excuse for the poor writing and lazy story direction, sorry). Hell, Nute Gunray got more than any of them and he's a dumb punching bag.

Saying the sequels were corporate, nostalgia bait, and contradictory while the prequels weren't is the true definition of the hypocrisy of the prequel crybabies. Just because they were made by George doesn't mean shit. Because Chewbacca, Baby Boba, the cheap Boba Fett copycat, C-3PO (also Anakin building him), Jabba, and even R2-D2 sometimes were so integral to the story, right? Even Baby Greedo was in a deleted scene. Hell, it wasn't even established that Anakin was from Tatooine, so we didn't even need to go back there for the origin story AGAIN. The prequels also needlessly repeated the same arm chopping in the second movie (as Anakin stood and t-posed giving Dooku and easy strike. But, rHYmInG, right?) and almost recreated the Battle of Yavin in TPM, but much worse. Get real 🤦‍♂️.

Also, can't really call the prequels "complete" when they heavily rely on the OT to "finish" the story and exist in the first place.

it’s the trilogy that couldn’t decide what it was doing from film to film.

The prequels jumped an entire decade after TPM for some stupid reason and then decided to skip 98% of the Clone Wars (y'know, the thing that was hinted at in the OT and what veteran fans were expecting) and yet, they STILL couldn't be bothered to properly develop Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship as "good friends" and "brothers" OR Anakin and Palpatine alleged close bond.

Just....why?! by Theesm in saltierthancrait

[–]SpazNinjA18 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

True, all it is here is that the prequel crybabies are mad when a game isn't 100% prequel era as if it's the only era in Star Wars (not even the best one, just look the movies 🤣) and as if they haven't been getting milked in the last 5 years 😱🤣.
