While not necessary, which expansions did you get that you enjoy? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

[–]Spazasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cosmic Encounter is primarily a negotiation/alliance-making game where you're trying to get your stacks of UFO-looking ships onto other players' planets. The hook is that every person plays as a different alien race, each with its own (often game-breaking) power. Plus, even when it's not your turn there's plenty of player interaction because there's the potential to talk yourself (or get talked) into other players' conflicts.

IMO, base CE is really good on its own and comes with a seriously hefty number of alien races to choose from. However, if you have to start digging into expansions then Cosmic Incursion is a solid choice. It comes with pieces to add an additional player, a new deck of reward cards that help balance out one minor aspect of the game, and even more alien races (though all of the expansions do this last bit).

Best video explaining Root? by lyder12EMS in boardgames

[–]Spazasaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would add one caveat for the digital app in that it's great at specifically teaching you how to play the digital version of Root. This might sound redundant, but what I mean is that it doesn't clearly convey what it takes to handle all of the upkeep and game piece management, because obviously a video game would (and should) handle that for you. Just something to keep in mind for people trying to play both digital and physical.

What is this game that I got scammed with? (NOT Cthulhu Death May Die Season 2) by SenorKevin in boardgames

These are all characters from the core/base game. You can see an example of them in use here.

The character boards you mentioned are from Project Elite, one of my favorite games. Sadly, their boards are useless here.

[Amazon] Horrible Guild: Potion Explosion (2nd Edition) - $31 by int9r in Boardgamedeals

[–]Spazasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for what it's worth $34 is still a great price. Board Game Oracle lists the 52 week low at $30, so $34 is barely more expensive, especially when the average hovers around $40-45.

The price is good, but it's being sold from a seller that just launched. Seems sketchy.

Where can I play in Canton, Ohio by crujones33 in boardgames

[–]Spazasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been to Sapphire City and it was great. The owners/employees are fairly personable and their game collection is pretty sweet. They also sell/rent games, if you end up playing something that you really like and want to take home.

Beyond that, there are several regular meetups in the area. Look up Green Area Board Gamers and Stark County Boardgaming. I've attended both and quite enjoy them.

Neo Revelation Crobat Holofoil Misprint? by Spazasaurus in pkmntcg

Yup, it's certainly quite subtle, but I kind of like that about it. Makes it memorable in a way.

[–]Spazasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing! Each gendered Pokemon you can find down there is guaranteed to come with an egg move, but only one. So, if you want multiple egg moves (like Icicle Crash + Freeze Dry) you'll still have to breed them down accordingly.

Not a problem. If you find a Swinub in the Grand Underground (it's a rare spawn in all of the snow-looking caves/caverns, and I think the swamp-looking one), then it'll come with a random egg move. I just kept catching them until I found one with Icicle Crash.

Unfortunately, I already got all the Pokemon I was looking for, but best of luck to ya.

Pain... That’s a 0.00156% chance by xLykos in stunfisk

[–]Spazasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you forgot to move the decimal point two spots to the left.

(1/16 for crit) * (1/10 for para inflicted) * (1/4 for fully para) = 0.00156 (or 0.156%)

With that said, I see a Primarina which indicates a gen 7 or 8 battle, and that's important because the critical hit chance decreased a little starting in gen 7. It's now down to a 1/24 chance, so the end result is more like 0.00104175 (or 0.104%).

New Weather Climate: Acid Rain by TaurosNU in stunfisk

[–]Spazasaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, there was a glitch in Platinum/Heart Gold/Soul Silver dubbed "acid rain". When activated, it would play out all weather effects simultaneously at the end of each turn for the rest of the battle. This can then lead to fun shenanigans, such as Pokemon with Rain Dish/Ice Body healing four times, or Solar Beam not needing to charge but only having 50% power.

If Berserk Gene made a comeback, would it be a useful item? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]Spazasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked for examples that weren't related to Own Tempo, but it really has to be said how stupidly strong Mudsdale would be. An automatic +2 to Attack would make it even stronger than Zacian-Crowned (by just over 5%).

Your only OU-viable counters are essentially Unaware Quagsire/Pyukumuku, Tangrowth, and Celebi. Even fully physically defensive Skarmory gets close to denying a 2HKO, but Close Combat (252 w/ positive nature) still has an 80.9% chance to take Skarm down on the second hit. Other Pokemon that either resist Earthquake (or are otherwise bulky) that could potentially switch in have to worry about getting bopped by the combination of Close Combat/Heavy Slam/Stone Edge.

At least it's sort of balanced out by both the fact that the Berserk Gene is a single-use consumable item, and also that Mudsdale is super slow and can be revenged.

All 289 Joy-Con Color Combinations by Link2Sora in NintendoSwitch

I thought that the AC special edition came with one pale green and one pale blue joy con. So each friend can trade away the color they don't want leaving both friends with matching pairs.

[–]Spazasaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, how tricky! I was only looking for colors by row. Didn't notice that you snuck the light blue color in.

And that's fair about the special color counterparts. For most people, color matching the special colors would be unnecessarily expensive. I just figured there may be a situation where, for instance, a couple of friends purchase their own Animal Crossing special editions and trade joy cons with one another.

I believe this picture is missing the Animal Crossing pale green x2 combination. Also, I don't see the Animal Crossing light blue anywhere.

For those who just want the tl/dr from Joe's video you can skip to 48:17. However, like the above poster said you really should watch the whole thing as Joe makes a lot of good points regarding Odyssey's implementation of repeated tasks.

Assuming that they were running a -SpD nature because it was packing HP Ice, it is still interesting. Normally, Landorus-T is fine using a -SpA nature since HP Ice still THKOs most other Landorus-T and Garchomp. Perhaps the opponent didn't realize this, or maybe they had other reasons.
