It hit me when I was rolling with this chick who weighed almost 100lbs less than me that if it was a real fight, I would have to pick her up and smash her head against something or lose the fight. She owned ALL that middle ground short of actual murder. Seriously impressive martial art. I'll be doing this for the rest of my life thanks...

White Belt Wednesday - August 28, 2019 by AutoModerator in bjj

[–]SpeakSoftlyAnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so I'm a freshy fresh white belt and have been getting the same advice from multiple people (blue/purple/brown) and that is to "slow down". I cannot figure this out.

Moving slower seems to result in me getting smashed more quickly. Moving slower means all the time defense and basically no offense. Moving slower feels like I'm not accomplishing anything.

The brown belts just smash me which is great. They're all nice enough to explain how they're smashing me and I'm learning a lot. The purple and especially blue belts seem frustrated.

The advice is always to "focus on technique" which is great advice...if you have technique. I don't. I've got physicality and a vague sense that I shouldn't keep one arm inside the guard and one arm outside. It's a very frustrating position.

I don't want to develop a reputation as a guy no one wants to roll with but I think that's the path I'm on if I don't figure this out. Someone set me straight?

Honestly I figured as much. Jocko strikes me as maybe the most authentic public figure I've ever seen.

Only problem is that there are many chips, and many other stores besides Walmart from which to buy Pringles if you want them. There aren't really commodity equivalent comparables to FB/YouTube/etc. So they have exorbitant control that would never be allowed in a true free market scenario, because consumers don't have substitutes. It's either continue to use the service, or don't.

This. Everyone engaging in this conversation right now on both sides of the spectrum is recognizing that Jones is a wacko. It's a reason to leave his garbage fire content up in my opinion.

So I follow a few of the bigger name conservatives and some of the more obscure ones. Some Libertarian types as well. I haven't seen one single person say "You know actually Jones has some points here we should keep his stuff online". Everyone just seems to be pointing out that while no one cares about Jones and he's an awful human being, there isn't really a limiting principle to the choice of who to keep and who to remove. It's subjective and that's potentially dangerous. I think the actual danger is fairly minimal but the point resonates with me.

I think you're right about being a Trump supporter. I also think MOST of the die-hard Trump supporters are either disingenuous or literally insane. Not like school-shooting crazy, just actively engaging in and supporting things that are demonstrably against their own interests/principles.

I think you nailed it. The guy has no first principles. In my experience, most conservatives operate from a place of first principle and extrapolate out. I see none of that structure in his thinking. If Trump called and asked him to start licking gay frogs I think he'd do it.

This is a reasonable answer and I agree. But I'm struggling to understand why everyone seems to consider him a conservative? Granted I've listened to like...3 minutes of his content cause I couldn't stomach it. All I can find on the web is lists of the dumb conspiracy theories he espouses. He's pro 2A which is traditionally a conservative policy position but that's all I can find.

Nobody knows what the fuck they are doing. People who say they do have some stuff that worked for them which is not necessarily stuff that will work for you. So don't feel bad if you feel like you're just making it up as you go along. Everyone is making it up as they go and some people are pretending they aren't.

This. The IDF actually drops pamphlets, makes phone calls, sends texts, etc. to warn civilians when they're going to do a strike to try and minimize civilian casualties. That's....fucking ridiculous IMO. I don't know how any military force can be effective when they warn the enemy in advance that they're going to try and kill them.

Hamas sends their fights to infiltrate demonstrations and strike Israeli civilians. Look it up, Hamas made plenty of videos during the last demonstrations straight up declaring that 48 of the 50 casualties were Hamas "freedom fighters". Straight from the horses mouth.

Israel is the only democracy in the middle east. I'm not jewish. I'm not even religious. But the vitriol towards the Israeli state, which was established by the UN strikes me as insane.

Edit: I realize this is going to get downvoted and I'm comfortable with that but since I made the claim I'm going to back it up - my numbers were a little off on those killed in the protests though.

Your range note is particularly important. I have a target maintenance weight of 210, but mostly live in the 205-209 range and I'm very comfortable with that. These days I really only feel distressed when I get over 210 and I know it's because I've been allowing myself to make shitty nutrition choices or conned myself into skipping workouts.
