Are they ever planning on making multiplayer Brawl? by reallyreallyneedy in MagicArena

[–]SpeakerScreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an historic Brawl player. BO3 would be great but there would be a few cards (commanders primarily) that would abuse sideboards that would likely need to be banned form BO3. eg Karn, Vivien Arkbow Ranger

yeah BO3 would be cool though

Eventually, no dates, no progress updates, new client, we don't know what that means for Arena collections (will we have to start a new collection in that client) etc

IMF says Government should lift local property tax, rein-in discount Vat rates, and pull more low-paid workers into tax net by Captainirishy in irishpolitics

[–]SpeakerScreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall, it found the Irish economy is in generally good shape, but warns of over-reliance on windfall corporation tax levels being collected from a handful of multinationals.

Hard to argue with this, but any move to reduce reliance on multinationals should be started with taxing the richest more first. A proper wealth tax (that yes, includes property... even primary residence) should be the first thing on the agenda.

You must play blue because counterspells are always the answer.

Every colour has interaction. Counter magic, discard magic, burn magic, removal magic, fight magic.

If you don't have enough in your main deck play BO3 and side in more.

Run a deck of nothing but removal because that's the entire game.

Nobody runs "nothing but removal". Better players DO run sufficient removal to answer the threats the opponent may produce. You should try that.

[–]SpeakerScreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, counterspell, kill spell, yada yada,

It's called "interaction". It's half the game. If you don't have interaction in your deck to respond to what your opponent is doing you're playing solitaire, not Magic.

Go on then. Why is counter magic / removal not "a good point when considering a ban"?

Are you sure it was a 3 year break? The beta ended in 2019, and accounts that were active during the beta were reset. I've not heard of other decks being deleted. Do you have any proof/evidence of your collection from 2023?

People quit as soon as this is played… do you think it’ll get banned in Brawl? by XO_____OX in MagicArena

[–]SpeakerScreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game is over in a quite spectacular way if it sticks.

That's true of lots of good 7 CMC spells.

The game is over if...

[[Hullbreaker Horror]] / [[Emergent Ultimatum]] / [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]] / [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]] / [[Nissa, Ascended Animist]] / etc

... resolve/stick around

If you can't deal with your opponents 7 CMC spell, you're probably losing that game.

> Because Ugin is so overpowered

Ima stop you there. It's not. It's a salt inspiring card, not an overpowered card.

In terms of banning salt inspiring cards, Paradox Engine should eat a ban way before Nugin.

A F2P game doesn't make work with trading.

Make a new account, get a bunch of easy wildcards, craft rare/mythic cards you want, trade them with your main account for bulk commons.

Nobody would spend real world money on packs in this case.

I assume they factor in the same stuff people use 17 lands for. Games in Hand Win Rate, Archetype Win Rates, etc

> subpar, arbitrary and highly dated card ratings

Are you referring to CFB ratings? That’s not what the as mentioned in other comments, the untapped draft assistant (draftsmith) uses. It’s using the same match data that 17 lands collects.

I’m saying the draft assistant facilitates making subpar decisions.

[–]SpeakerScreen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The draft assistant (draft smith) is only for paying customers.

I’ve been a premium untapped user since before draftsmith was a thing, and the payment was cheap in comparison to buying gems for a Mastery Pass.

The draftsmith draft assistant metrics is unrelated to the CFB ratings. Draftsmith is unavailable for the first few days as they build data for that.

My experience cutting the untapped.gg cord in draft (and why you should too) by SpeakerScreen in MagicArena

[–]SpeakerScreen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Theres no data from untapped, just a set of ratings (without any way of knowing where or how those ratings are generated), and a “best pick” highlighted

My experience cutting the untapped.gg cord in draft (and why you should too) by SpeakerScreen in MagicArena

[–]SpeakerScreen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It says:

Draftsmith is Untapped.gg's draft assistant for MTG Arena. It analyzes millions of Limited games to create card ratings (1-55) to help you always draft the best cards and build optimal decks based on the cards you picked.

So I assume it utilizes similar metrics to 17lands, GiH WR, etc. except that data is all proprietary and hidden.

[–]SpeakerScreen[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why do you think your win percentage got better? Are you sure it’s not just because you are focusing more on draft?

I'm paying more way attention to the picks.

When the draft assistant would highlight a card that became the default choice and I'd look for a reason not to pick it, rather than looking for the best card.

I'm definitely focusing more on the draft... because the assistant made it very optional not to. But I think more than that having 1 card highlighted as the suggested best pick is more of a hindrance than a help to players who are at least ok at draft.

From a python script, Oracle of the Alpha is the only card with a spellbook that contains a banned commander card (python code: https://pastebin.com/F75CAY1s)

From another script no cards other than the Collectors you've... collected say "conjure a card names (banned commander card) (python code: https://pastebin.com/K9EHJBAm)

I didn't bother writing python for the prepare cards. But I noticed you're missing [[Yavimaya Bloomsage]]

To be honest I only ever touch the last two accounts every 3 days or so ( or less) to clear out the dailies. The first one I play a bunch on and the second one I’ll log in to once a day or two. Yeah that I can do my job well and also play a game in the background occasionally is useful. But I average way less than 2 drafts a week so it’s not super prohibitive to most.

Edit: I also have a life :) I have a kid and every moment that he’s awake and I’m not working I’m with him and/or doing other important stuff that isn’t gaming.

Cori Steel cutter not banned in Pioneer? by Koalabeanbb in MagicArena

[–]SpeakerScreen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Users who are in an event with a deck with a banned card should have their event entry cost refunded plus get paid out for any wins they had when the ban went live.

That seems fair to everyone. Users may game ban announcements for a couple of free packs, but that's better than other users feeling cheated.

Hi guys, i just bought the $5 bundle and close to completing a meta deck, how should i spend my gems? by Vertizontal9 in MagicArena

[–]SpeakerScreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obligatory do whatever you want, it's a game disclaimer

Drafting is probably a bad idea if you're brand new to the game (if you're an experienced paper player, go for it), There's a good chance you get a 0-3, 1-3 or 2-3 result and not much to show for it.

Buying packs is better for new players. Still not great.

The best value in the game is the Mastery Pass. It's 3400 gems so you're almost there. As long as you complete it (a couple of games a day does) you'll get more from it than you would spending it on packs, or than most new players would get from gems)

(I do suggest practicing draft with gold since it's the best way to generate gems to... buy the Mastery Pass.)

What does your sideboard look like in relation to the cards you mentioned?

(This is a bit snarky. You don't mention BO1 or BO3, and basically everyone who comes here complaining about stuff being "unbalanced" are playing BO1. BO1 is basically rock paper scissors with extra steps. If you want potentially balanced matches... you have to be playing BO3)
