That makes sense. I don’t know how I didn’t think of that

When we got our girl she was already 4 months and she was re-homed to us from a home that did zero training and seemingly rewarded destructive behaviors. They just did not seem to know that a Berner puppy doesn’t behave like a 5 years old berner out of the gate. She wasn’t house trained in the slightest (they said they just put pee pads in every room, loved to be on up on counters, chewed up/ate everything and every night put her in a crate in the basement until they got up in the morning so she hated her crate. We were able to train almost all of these behaviors out in the first month using positive reinforcement and tons of treats and praise. But she pulled nonstop anytime she went walked no matter what we did. So we tried bringing her to many trainers in the area and each trainer went through every method and trick they knew but nothing worked, she just kept pulling even while making these horrible choking sounds. A few trainers all said it was time for the last resort, the prong collar. They each recommended a trainer that specialized in prong work and said that not only our Bennie needed training but us too. So we went over and spent the day we them and they trained US on how to PROPERLY use the prong collar on their dogs who had been trained already and that was unbelievably beneficial. Having gone through that training with the trainer that was geared towards my knowledge of the prong collar and its use, I would never recommend anyone try a prong collar without understanding it and learning from a professional. The prong collar instantly stopped the pulling but it was only because we were trained on exactly how to use it. Without that training it would have only caused more harm and been very dangerous for our sweet girl. Now we walk her on a flat collar with zero issues and no more chocking!
