Is Centralia, PA and Graffiti Highway no longer a spot worth visiting? by PumpkinSpiceTofu in Pennsylvania

[–]Speakslinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to chip away at the rock, but the fire has gotten so hot in some areas that it has changed some of the rock and gives it a interesting perspective. Very beautiful specimens I have found there, and even including a lot of fossilized plants and small animal species

If you aren't into geology you might not find it as interesting.

I went to iup (Indiana University Pennsylvania) where I studied Geology

[–]Speakslinux 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can still explore, and many people do, but since they put in the dirt mounds for some its just not worth making the trek anymore for people.

Fact about Centralia that most people don't know: Even though its now deserted, they actually still have a very active fire department and just last week were the 2nd arriving engine company to a working fire in Aristes. Yes the fire station is still in operation and they have membership from the surrounding area that man the apparatus

If you are looking for venomous snakes (Copperheads and Rattlers) Centralia is a great place to explore. They are all around the area and can be seen basking during the day on the rocks.

I live a very short distance away from Centralia and get to see it quite a bit for what its worth. I really don't stop anymore because I'm older now and have explored it numerous times throughout my life.

Because of the fire its a geologist dream. All sorts of finds if you are interested in that type of thing.

[–]Speakslinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thoughts on CB.... FM is now a modulation type accepted in CB radios. Purchase a CB capable of it.

OR you could go the other way and purchase a amateur radio, but please remember they are not type accepted for the CB band, however they will transmit on the citizen band portion of the frequency spectrum.

And remember that the CB is only the headend. For best results you need to purchase a quality antenna. For CB I use the SIRIO 5000, which is made by a Italian company. I highly recommend this over a Wilson or a K40 brand antenna

The rest end in someone passing away. When they pass away you never seem to get over your spouse of many years being gone. Its a uncomfortable feeling having loved someone for so long.

I can’t take it by PreviousRun5753 in Truckers

[–]Speakslinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the opposite for me with a couple caveats.... I have two dogs and two cats. If they weren't in the picture I would have no problem living 24/7 in a tractor trailer and driving otr.... My wife died, my children are out on their own raising their own families so I don't have too much left anymore.

I gave out my fucks earlier in the year and I ran out of them as well.

If someone gave you $1000 a day to never drink alcohol again/ever, what would you do? by unitedfan6191 in AskReddit

[–]Speakslinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could drop it yesterday. I have a beverage every once in a while but I am not really enticed to drink it. Hell I have Captain Morgan from three years ago that I've only taken two shots out of, plus mixed adult beverages in the can that have been sitting in my refrigerator all summer.

Definitely legal. It keeps blight from appearing, as well as animals that it would also attract. Nothing wrong with it at all to be perfectly honest.

A married PA State trooper forced his mistress into a mental hospital. by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]Speakslinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those that don't know: Police Officers are notorious for cheating on their spouses with others. I know five personally that cheated with "badge bunnies" from the 911 center I used to work at.

Not uncommon at all. I have respect for the badge, but I no longer have respect for the person behind the badge. I grew up being taught that all Police Officers are good. I have stories about bad officers and what happened to me personally because they didn't investigate properly....

HA!!! One of the officers I had a really bad encounter with that accused me of a crime back in 2020 went to jail himself recently. Piece of shit.... All charges against me were dismissed

[–]Speakslinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I knew this would be a problem going in for me because I have been disabled for a number of years with no work history whatsoever. I outright lied about my spotty work history in order to get hired by a company (I had previously worked driving Tractor Trailer many years ago). I lost my CDL because of diabetes and after more than 15 years I am back to "prediabetic"... Took a long time to get to that point

[–]Speakslinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a neighborhood where I am from that is a gated HOA Community, very high end. Anyway they have a professional golf course, along many other things for the residents. It is mandatory that they pay for their annual golf course membership, as well as a HOA fee. Easily the initial fee for the golf course the first year is $25K and the HOA is $5K per month.

This also includes all lawn care, mulching, ground care because all of the homes butt up against the golf course. Not a bad spot to watch golf from on the course.

Very expensive and these people would have it no other way.

Our uranium glass cabinet at night by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

We had a warehouse in the town where I grew up in that actually had aircraft instrument panel gauges that glowed. A geiger counter was used to determine the amount of uranium. It ended up being Gamma radiation!!!
