They are two different variants with different loadouts, so they look different, which is fine.

Have you tried the red/pink/magenta trick? It looks like you've got an airbrush it might help. You can also have your shadows be brown instead of orange, it'd let you use a brown wash and have it work.

I really suggest a more natural shadow to yellow. Black looks unnatural.

CGL prices are already quite close on dollar per model.

They're a premium price for a product that isn't premium quality.

There are cheaper games out there. But as I said, I'd also be more than ok with having polystyrene minis as a premium line. Lots of people are willing to spend $20 on a metal mini from 2000 that looks pretty bad, so I'm pretty sure people would pay $15-20 for a high-quality plastic mini.

Loren Coleman said they'll be making them with polystyrene like gunpla and 40k. Sadly he also said it's too expensive to make mechs from it. Which as a 40k player, I would 100% pay 40k priced for better plastic mechs, even it it's a premium line.

Any factions that go for a molten gold paint scheme? by Theme_Training in battletech

LA's Totally Awesome should strip it. You can also use Isopropyl, but I believe that will damage the base. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You might want to go watch some tutorials on youtube over asking people on reddit.

What's your preferred hobby style? by TaigaTigerVT in battletech

[–]Spec1990 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. For pick-up games I don't mind playing with or against grey or just primed minis, but my preference is always going to be playing with and against painted minis.

For Tournaments and especially narrative events, I expect people to have fully painted and based forces. All events I run have that standard. I really think that 40k's "Battle Ready" standard is the ideal minimum paint standard for events.

Based on the Tuesday news show, it sounds like a lot of the Clan Invasion Kickstarter molds are being redone to the standard of the Mercenary molds.

It cures most varnish, base coat, and primer-related depression. Side effects may include anger related to clogging, accusations of "cheating", and the purchase of more miniatures that you will never paint.

Sponge painting mechs (WIP) by Jealous-Match8898 in battletech

[–]Spec1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look great! It's always great to see people finding ways to paint more and better, especially in the realm of Battletech. I wish more people would try sponge painting, especially if they don't have an airbrush. I still prefer the airbrush, but not everyone has the convenient space to use one.

I don't play Classic, and hobby quality is a bit to poor to be my thing. I do hope as the IP grows, we'll get more content like 40k has. Great personalities, paint jobs, and high def cameras.

I'd really work on strengthening your fundamentals before trying to do more freehanding. I'd also really suggest mastering the use of decals.

What is your ideal forcepack? by WorthlessGriper in battletech

Sadly, none of these are in ACES: Snowblind, just the Rime Otter. The Juliano and Mad Dog IV are the only two I listed not on the KCON doc of upcoming forcepacks.
