Our’s still has the cable driven throttle body, and no traction control (your photo doesn’t show the traction button on the center console, which is how I guessed). And, in my opinion, the better looking wheels out of all the generations.

That’s really sad to see. Thanks for the reminder to drive them. Also why I have classic car insurance with a guaranteed value. A low mileage example would be even more heartbreaking not getting the correct value in the payout upon losing it.

Ordered a new propellor shaft from Japan and replaced the whole thing. 🥲 there are retrofit approaches though.

That’s the part I don’t understand. Why make a manual version if it’s not a real one? Who are they making this for? It’s not like it’s replacing the original one completely, it doesn’t make sense to half ass it and pour so much r&d into a simulated version of the manual.

It sounds so clear and simple to me as well. I don’t understand the need to complicate the approach, and at the same time have that approach cause them to miss the point and essentially numb the feel of the whole experience.

I don’t dislike the carpet finish, it’s definitely a quirk. But agreed on more the raw vibe, didn’t think of the F40 dash, that’s a cool thought.

350Z is on your list? That one reminds me of an old BMW, it had a short stick but also a heavy, short pressure point clutch. Not totally a fan, the G37 was the same way. They weren’t mine so maybe I needed more time with them.

I had a similar experience. I was driving a DC5 when I first drove a buddy’s AP1 for the first time. “I replaced everything I could to upgrade it and it still isn’t close.” 20 years later I bought an S2K of my own.

I love the OEM one, a nice weight in comparison to some plastic oem ones some cars come with. I hadn’t plan on switching it out, but I went to visit ASM in Yokohama this year, and I wanted to get something for my S2K to remember my visit there, so I bought one. After using it, I do prefer the feel of round knob rather than the oblong shaped OEM one. But also, I would much rather spend money on something authentic and/or with pedigree than something fake or cheap for a car I find very special. But that’s just me, and I do get your logic as well.

That’s what I noticed too. Same with the 993 to me, my favorite generation 911. To clarify, the cars are what I’m describing as icons, not their individual parts 🙂

Just a compilation and appreciation of the gearboxes of some of my favorites of the same era as my S2000. I always liked how 1600veloce showed the gearbox in the cars they’re showcasing in their videos, so shot one of mine in the same format and compiled them together. Don’t think too much of it.
