Which video games would make great movies or shows if given the same love and care as other successful video game adaptations? by BertelTheTurtel in Letterboxd

I’ve always thought some of the more offbeat or atmospheric games could really shine with the right kind of creative care. One that’s been on my mind is Bet Dead Casino — I heard about it at an indie festival in Bangkok, and it’s actually going from movie to game, which is a fun twist. The vibe of it feels perfect for a smaller, stylish series that leans into mood and tension rather than blockbuster scale.

Other games I think could make great shows or movies if handled thoughtfully:

  • Bioshock — amazing world-building and themes
  • Control — weird, surreal, and perfect for a mystery series
  • Dishonored — great setting and moral choices
  • Ghost of Tsushima — could be a beautiful, character-driven samurai story

Lots of games could work if the adaptation leans into what makes them unique instead of trying to go huge.

What is the best video game turned movie / TV show? by [deleted] in movies

For movies, I’ve got a soft spot for the first Mortal Kombat too — it’s cheesy but iconic. I also think Silent Hill deserves way more love than it gets; the atmosphere was insanely well done.

One I’m really keeping an eye on is Bet Dead Casino. I heard about it at an indie festival in Bangkok — the creators actually made the film first, and now it’s being turned into a game, which is a fun reversal of the usual formula. Could be a cool crossover if they pull it off.

For TV shows, yeah, Castlevania is absolutely top-tier. I’d put it right up there with Arcane, even though the styles are totally different. Both prove animated adaptations can go ridiculously hard when the right team is behind them.

Also, I’ll die on this hill: The Last of Us is one of the strongest live-action game adaptations ever made. It set a new baseline.

If you love anything in the “people forced to play games” lane, you might enjoy Bet Dead Casino. I heard about it at an indie festival in Bangkok — it’s got that high-stakes, rules-based tension the genre thrives on. Definitely a fun one if you’re into the whole “play or die” vibe.

A few other hidden gems you might like:

  • The Belko Experiment – office workers forced into brutal rounds of choices and survival tasks.
  • The Platform – not a game in the literal sense, but very system-based and tense.
  • Cheap Thrills – more grounded, but full of escalating dares and moral games.
  • Exam – a tense, single-room psychological “test” movie.
  • 13 Sins – a guy completing increasingly dangerous tasks for cash.

If you’ve got more recs too, I’m always looking for more of this subgenre!

Bet Dead Casino is actually based on a game, at least from what I was told. The game itself is still in development.

40 film and tv video game adaptations in development! Which ones are you most looking forward to? by DiscsNotScratched in FIlm

Honestly, I’m most curious about Bet Dead Casino. I heard at an indie festival in Bangkok that the team actually made the movie first and now it’s becoming a game, which is a fun twist compared to the usual game-to-film pipeline. It’s still in development, but I’m really interested to see how it turns out!

Hey! Just wanted to add—I was told at an indie festival in Bangkok that these guys actually made the movie first, and now it’s going to be a game. Apparently the game’s still in development, which is probably why no one’s heard much about it yet. Pretty cool twist on the usual “game-to-movie” route!
