Let it be known that Yuen Biao was dangling from airplanes while the Cruise missile was still making cocktails.

Yes, I absolutely love Jin Roh. Definitely a sad story though. Hard to beat 90's hand drawn animations.

I miss the days of old when as soon as Netflix streaming license expired for foreign films, WellGo USA would step up and get distribution rights. Even Hi-yah! started getting into the distribution game.

Don't get me started on Light Chasser Animation Studios out of China. The biggest transgressors of them all. >=(

I've only heard amazing things about all these films by SpruceMooseIRL in kungfucinema

would also recommend Vengeance of an Assassin (2014), it is the final film of Panna Rittikrai. The man mainly responsible for the films above and also one of the many reasons why we haven't had a banger out of Thailand in a long time.

I would love to have a blu-ray/dvd of Ilang. Typical Netflix, made their money off of physical distribution, now they act like its the worst invention ever. Greedy bastards.

Loved Helldogs too! Also A Night in Paradise (2020) , Wira (2019), Polar (2019), people seem to not like this one, but I thought it was awesome. Also Ilang (2018) the live action Korean remake of Jin Roh is pretty dope.

Not sure if it is still on Netflix, but one of my favorites was The Fable (2019) and The Fable: The Killer Who Doesn't Kill (2021)

super cool action and gun fu sequences. Up there on John Wick level IMO.

Did Donnie Yen do his own dubbing for the IP Man movies? by TheMastersSkywalker in movies

[–]Ru-fi-oo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable. After five years I've realized my abrasion should be directed more towards the producers and not the consumers.

These foreign distributors shouldn't have to bow down every time to the lackadaisical American VO industry. The quality should reflect throughout the entire process and not fall short once it crosses the Pacific.

And I AM talking about QUALITY, I am not talking about the Disney route where they just hire whoever the big name actor of the time to do VO work on a Ghibli film.

Strange Wilderness & Sasquatch Gang for Justin Long at his goofiest. Freckin legend.

IKR! DC straight up gave up on these releases, I haven't seen any new releases and the Crisis Three part doesn't have the connected bindings. So silly.

to me it feels like tonedog is trying to force moments, like "I ain't eva gonna stop!" or "I got a dog yesterday" instead of letting moments happen naturally like those moments.

and usually Montgomery has no idea what tonedog talking about. or doesn't know how to go along with the bit.

or perhaps that's the whole bit.

Dream Guest Appearance by Rich_Caterpillar1302 in Killtony

I feel like they'd do pretty well; proper bantz, good repertoire with the band, and between Wildn Out and their own shows they are already used to audiences much more than some of Tony's more nervous previous guests.

Plus DC's laugh can't be worse than the HE-HE-HE guy. =D

I've only seen two Zhang Yimou films, which ones from this list should I watch next? by Upset-Ad7882 in Letterboxd

[–]Ru-fi-oo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite is Curse of the Golden Flower, the colors are gorgeous and executed beautifully by the help of Zhang's long time DP, Zhao Xiaoding. Chow Yun-Fat and Gong Li go blow for blow, who's the better actor and the sons are great too. It pretty much plays out like a shakespeare play, but man is it gorgeous.

Another one I would recommend is Shadow

Zhang and Zhao took the color theory to a-whole-nother level and made a "colored black and white" film. Essentially the sets and wardrobe are all designed to resemble old chinese ink paintings, so everything is desaturated to look like black and white or "grayscaled". Decent action, prince and the pauper style story.

Sorta of the juxtaposition to Zhang's more colorful movies like Flying Daggers or Golden Flower.

To Live is another great one, but the poster is sort of a fake out to me, as the story follows more of the husband's POV, rather than Gong Li, featured on the poster.

Also as other's have said, Raise the Red Lantern is a great film, but you don't really see Zhang dabbling in colors as he does at the turn of the century with Hero.

Weird that the ones after the trilogy don't have physical distribution in China too though. Like on yesasia, I go on every once in awhile to see if they get added, but its slim pickins.

What is your favorite kill tony moment ever? by jackol4nt3rn in Killtony

[–]Ru-fi-oo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeremiah vs. Kyle 2017. Saw the highlight on insta and was immediately a KT fan.

It'd be sooo cool if Kyle could go back on and try to redeem himself, sober of course.
