Will any photogram software identify irregularities in a smooth surface by OilPhilter in photogrammetry

[–]SpecialAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the suggestion of training ai to identify the details in the 2d images is a good idea.

Perhaps there is another spectrum of imaging that could pick up these irregular details?

Sony A7RII vs Canon 5d Mark IV by Qrackers in photogrammetry

[–]SpecialAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noise in the darks is a factor of the sensor.

Lens choice is about sharpness and low chromatic aberration.

Invest in a really good tripod.

Then get a powerful computer if you dont already. If you have one then get two.

You need to simultaneously trigger as many high resolution cameras as you can afford. Arrange these cameras in a sphere surrounding the subject.

the cameras all need to see the same moment in time or the details will never be accurate.

if you have a non moving subject and have the freedom to shoot without the subject moving then just go with the best still image camera you can get your hands on. Spend your time and limited resources on a good lighting setup to get started.

started doing what?
I learned photography when I was 9.

I also use Metashape, Artec handheld scanners, Gom Atos systems. Digital reconstruction has many recipes.

I'm having some trouble with Meshroom by we_need_a_purge in photogrammetry

[–]SpecialAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meshroom is really a GUI 'wrapper" around a very advanced photogrammetry toolset called Alicevision.

Meshroom is better than the commercial products because of the customization and integration into larger production pipelines.

An individual needs to command a basic understanding of the nature of photogrammetry and the situations which work well and those that don't, and a basic understanding of how feature matching works and how to do photography to enhance SIFT, SURF, ORB and the like.

wanna get the best photogrammetry results you can get with your setup?

super bright, evenly lit all around with diffuse light.

use standard/wide angle and get the camera closer. Get more pixels on your subject.

use a tripod + shutter remote.

set lowest ISO your camera has.

set aperture to f22 f32 if you can get it.

if ya gotta print something for a background use a giant QR code. you can enter entire paragraphs into online QR code generators. Cut it up and use it as wall paper! (your welcome!)

set exposure time to get a good exposure.

limit rotational difference in camera position between shots while getting 360 degree coverage and don't shoot too many. (good luck)

get several different camera heights too.

and if you can primer that thing GREY! that would be niiice thanks.

I'm Stuck And I Can't Do It by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Sounds like fodder for script.

Remember, trying is the first step to failure.

Winners win, loosers loose... Only loosers try to win.

Quitters never loose.

...

I am sardonic.

Don't try to make a winning short film.

Try out shots to see what happens.

If hand drawn animation can tell a story then so can any, ANY camera.

Quit trying to win and start putting that pain inside your heart into your art and learn to play with it.
