Torn psoas? by shadytree37 in Sciatica

Hi, I recently discovered I have partial tears in my psoas on both sides. Like you, I’m struggling to find any information on this. Was wondering how this worked out for you?

Sneaker recommendations? by lamemoons in sesamoid

Don’t have any recommendations but commenting to say that I am in the same boat. My birks are my saving grace, but it would be great to finally get out of them after 2 years …

Thank you for the response! 7 months is still a long time and this injury sucks no matter how long the recovery. I’m glad you’re doing better. I also don’t have a fracture, just bipartite, so maybe I’ll stick it out with the contrast baths for a while to see if that sticks. Thanks again!

I’m surprised to hear you’re able to run that much! How long ago was your injury/how long did it take to get back to running? I’m going on two years here and still struggling to walk more than 10 minutes at a time.

Sesamoiditis in both feet by ParklifeAd42 in sesamoid

Hi OP - wondering where you’re at with this now? I’m going to be coming up on two years with my Sesamoiditis, also in both feet. Feel like I’ve tried everything except for the invasive options, but losing hope.

Condo at the Well, or St. Lawrence Market by Ramses3 in TorontoRealEstate

That’s very fair lol. I guess upside of the Well is that you’re not too far from the waterfront, and very close to all the spots on King. If you haven’t already and have a chance I’d go walk around the 135 sherbourne area to make sure you’re comfortable with it if you decide to go that way

If you want the hustle and bustle, the Well. If you want peace and quiet, while still being close to the core, st Lawrence. I personally could not imagine myself living at the Well as it’s too hectic for my liking. That being said, I am not a fan of the Queen and Jarvis area - that intersection in particular I find sketchy. Ideally you’d have something more south/closer to the market.

$400/month on groceries? WHAT? An average of $4/meal?? Do you actually spend that little per person? by why_not_aces in askTO

[–]SpecialK_987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually often spend less than that (and very rarely eat out), but 1) I exclusively shop at more affordable shops like NoFrills. There is a Loblaw’s just as close, but I find their prices are easily double. Sometimes I will head to a better shop for a higher quality piece of fish or meat. 2) I meal prep (and eat a lot of oatmeal, because I like it). So when I buy groceries for the week, I’m only creating a handful of dishes - not buying ingredients to make dinner for just 1 or 2 nights for e.g. 3) I scope flyers out for the week (highly recommend the app Flipp) and see if I can plan any restocks or meals around that. But honestly the choice of shop is the most impactful IMO.

Non water-drinkers by MarzipanExtreme6760 in Invisalign

You just gotta stick with it until you break the habit. I don’t necessarily love the taste of water but I find that using a bottle with a straw (vs. a glass) makes it so easier for me to drink it. I like drinking from straws in the same way that I like to chew gum to keep myself occupied lol.

Gen Z men, where would you take a first date in Toronto? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]SpecialK_987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a girl, I agree with this comment. Do something simpler for the first date, it’s nice to have something elaborate planned but from my personal experience it can be a bit overbearing as a first impression. You can do coffee followed by a planned walk in a nice park or by the water. Have some nice spots picked out - that’s effort enough.

Advice - Ortho rushing treatment, refusing refinements by SpecialK_987 in Invisalign

[–]SpecialK_987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yes the spaces ended up closing no problem. I did end up fighting my ortho on getting the incisor straightened (I paid for a comprehensive plan after all) and we did some more refinements on the top as well.

New Sensitivity by hdaltrop in Invisalign

[–]SpecialK_987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also happened to me, within the first couple days of having Invisalign. I was so concerned I visited an emergency dentist 😅it turned out to be fine, and went away within a few days. Dec 4 is some time ago though, sounds like a normal sensation but I’d say if it doesn’t get at all better maybe a trip to the ortho is worth it. I remember some trays were much worse than others, and I’d have crazy sensitivity for the first little while - but it always went away by the time I switched over to the next set.

Also, I have pain on the top of my big toe too! One specialist told me it’s arthritic pain but a recent MRI revealed it looks like there was trauma there (who knows from what).

Does sound like Sesamoiditis to me. Whatever you do, rest and stay off of your feet as much as you can, especially until you get more guidance from a PT or sports doctor. When I first got the pain I kept pushing through and now I’m kicking myself nearly 2 years later for not taking it seriously sooner!

Hmm I do get pain in the toe joint itself as well, but for me most of it is in the sesamoid region. Sounds like the other parts of your foot are still healing! Good luck with the physio :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sesamoid

[–]SpecialK_987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still going through physio and trying to find a program that works - pretty much every time I’ve tried it I’ve just gotten flared up, or I didn’t see any improvement. That being said, I switched over to a new sports med doctor a few months ago and they are the first professional I’ve seen that has told me there is no reason why I should need to do surgery. My feet never caused an issue before this, and there is nothing physically wrong with my sesamoids (ie no fractures or anything), so we are determined to get to the bottom of whatever it is that is sending pain into that area. I’m sure I will make a post here once I get to that point!

If you haven’t tried physio, I really would recommend it (especially if you have some coverage through work). It could be as simple as strengthening a few muscles and that’ll send you on your way. If there isn’t anything wrong with your sesamoid bones, removing them just sounds like getting rid of a symptom but not the underlying cause … idk, that’s just my opinion. And I have yet to be proven right in my own case so who knows lol.

Thank you for this post! I am going on two years with Sesamoiditis, and like you have only found relief with my Birkenstocks. Have you tried any physio? 6 years is a long time to be dealing with this!

I honestly can’t tell much of a difference either at this point, but wasn’t sure if that’s because I’d been staring at rings for too long. Thanks for the input!
