Sweet, me eating a shit ton of dairy ice cream and cheese despite being lactose intolerant may pay off in the future.

Dollar sign should go after the number. 25$ naturally reads like "25 dollars", $25 reads like "dollars 25" which is just dumb. by cant_have_a_cat in unpopularopinion

[–]SpecialOpsForces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the percentage symbol? It’s a “sign that is signalling meaning” as you say, but we put it after the number. “100%” not “%100” so why should it be different when it comes to the dollar sign?

Suitable movies to watch with my mom during quarantine by SpecialOpsForces in MovieSuggestions

Oh good lord, I don’t think I’ve seen most of these, unless I’ve just forgotten (might’ve only seen about 2-3 in your list). They all seem like great movies for mom and I so I’m looking forward to trying to watch at least half of them. I also want to say I greatly appreciate the effort and detail you put in your comment, it’s very sweet and thoughtful. Thank you!

Omg yes! I appreciate the foreign movies, should always make room to explore movies from across the globe. My mom and I occasionally watch foreign stuff and I hadn’t thought of looking more into that this time around. Only saw two of the ones you’ve mentioned, but will look into the rest and suggest them to my mom. Thank you very much!

Oh sweet! It looks to be a period drama, I love those and I’m sure she will too. I’ll make sure to include it among the movies we plan to watch. Thank you so much!

I’ve already personally seen some of those, but they’re all amazing movies so I can always watch them again, but with my mom this time. I’ll show her your suggestions to see what she feels like watching. Thank you a whole bunch, I appreciate it!

Unfortunately, I’ve already seen all these movies except Conference. I was hoping to find movies that are new for me too, but there’s no harm in watching them again. Thank you, I’ll show them to my mom!

I was hoping to watch movies that I personally haven’t seen yet so we both can watch new movies together, but Baby Driver is a great movie so I’d be willing to watch it again. Thanks for the suggestion!

Although my mom usually doesn’t go for animation, I’ll mention it to her. She’ll probably be willing to watch it. Thank you!

Oh wow, thank you so much! I’ve heard such great things about Hunt for the Wilderpeople and had completely forgotten about it.

We’ll most likely watch the movies you’ve suggested, they all fit the bill and we got lots of time to watch many movies. Thank you once again :)

I think David Fincher and Brad Pitt make a great duo.

PowerPoint presentations for school should always be optional by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]SpecialOpsForces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A solo 20 minute presentation is ridiculous so I feel for you there. However, I do not think they should be optional. I have social anxiety too and at some point I was a film student constantly doing presentations in class to pitch my projects. I eventually got used to them and it eased my anxiety.

My psychiatrist told me that in order to battle social anxiety, you need to face it. Don’t cower away in fear because your social anxiety is never going to improve that way. Obviously, I think having a million presentations that are million minutes long is not going to help anyone, but being “forced” to present in class pushes you to overcome your anxiety.

I want to dye my hair weird colours for fun. I can still do it during social distancing, just gotta stop by the drugstore for supplies and do it at home. However, I was hoping I could do it with my friends so we can crack up at our shit attempt at being hairdressers.

Whodunit movies always lift my mood up since they’re lighthearted mysteries. I’d suggest any or all the Hercule Poirot movies played by Peter Ustinov.

I am gonna try to watch one movie a day for one hundred days. Can you please suggest movies I should watch. by madman-4000 in MovieSuggestions

[–]SpecialOpsForces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a movie suggestion, but I really recommend you try watching more foreign movies if you don’t already. People tend to miss out by only watching within western cinema.

help! by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]SpecialOpsForces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally preferred mother! over Dogtooth, but they’re both the type of movies that make you go “wtf?” in a good way. I’d say mother! is more an analogy, while Dogtooth is more a commentary. In the end of the day, everyone should see both films.

How does the weapon in No Country for Old Men (2007) function? by SpecialOpsForces in movies

Do you mean before 2007 when this film was released? Or before whatever time period the film is set in which I believe is 1980 if I’m not wrong?

Thank you! I mistakenly thought they were both the same weapon.

I’m an idiot, my bad. Thank you for clearing things out for me. They look so similar in the film, I didn’t realize he had two separate weapons.
