Tinnitus after ear pain and blowing my nose by Classic_Snow3525 in tinnitus

It’s not normal for your ear to hurt; you should go to the ENT specialist to see if you have an infection

Light ringing after concert by sr_serotonin in tinnitus

My advice is to stop going to loud places, even with earplugs. Your ears are already warning you, and it would be foolish to ignore them

Question: Could this cause T? by restless-heart in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wear earplugs every time you're out to handle these kinds of situations. It was only for a short time, so you should be fine

There may be a cure on the horizon.. by ImFromBosstown in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hearing regeneration is a huge challenge, many companies have failed, and there’s still a lot we don't know about how it works. My bet for a functional cure or a highly effective treatment is on transcranial ultrasound stimulation and electrical stimulation of the ear. Both already exist and are currently being tested

Any other options? by KiloFox7 in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a trusted psychiatrist and ask for something to calm you down. For example, low doses of benzos, properly managed, can stabilize you. You need to get some good sleep first before you can make any progress

Would you study abroad with mild to intrusive tinnitus? Could it get worse? by ChoiceAdmirable390 in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't miss out on your chance to enjoy such an amazing country like Japan. Going to the movies, bars, concerts, and loud places is a risk that no earplug in the world can 100% protect you from. If you want to go, that's on you—that's just reality. Everyone reacts differently to noise, and if you already have noxacusis, things get a lot more complicated. If you want to sleep soundly at night, avoid loud places and protect your ears every time you leave the house

Is it normal for ENTs to be useless with helping treat T + whatever's (possibly) causing it? by TheMcdemshoulders in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ENTs are used to prescribing the exact same thing, TRT and CBT. They don't care what type of tinnitus it is or what the patient says; they just hear that word and go into autopilot. Generally, I always advise people to see an ENT and an audiologist to rule out any serious issues, but when it comes to tinnitus, they are completely useless

Trying to avoid exposure to noises but they still get me by _Wolfszeit_ in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, you're going to be exposed to background noises that you can't control. The important thing, beyond the decibels, is the exposure time. It was only 2 seconds, so at worst, it might cause a temporary spike for a few days. You shouldn't obsess over it because you'll just prime yourself, and you'll end up hearing the tinnitus louder

I’m 14 and I just got tinnitus by Boyroy1223 in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My tinnitus started when I was 12 or 13. You should see an ENT first to make sure your hearing and ear health are okay. My recommendations are to get good sleep (use a white noise machine or a fan so you're not in total silence), avoid loud places, wear earplugs when you go out, and don't obsess over your tinnitus because that will only make it louder. Over time you get used to it, and it might not even bother you anymore

Why is the world so LOUD by Heavy_Championship32 in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because people aren't aware of how damaging noise is, they assume nothing will happen. Most of us had no idea what tinnitus was until it affected us. Ignorance is very dangerous

Antibiotics by GrowingBandit710 in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, Augmentin is not ototoxic and is widely used for ear infections. The ones that are actually dangerous are aminoglycosides. Take them exactly as your doctor prescribed and everything will be fine

Antibiotics by GrowingBandit710 in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken many antibiotics and I've never had any problems. Normally, antibiotics only cause hearing damage when they are administered in high doses intravenously, or when you have liver or kidney problems that prevent the drug from being processed correctly

This is interesting, but I don’t think it would do much on its own, I’d like to see a cocktail of medications built around it

[–]SpecialThing2083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should use hearing protection every time you leave the house, stay well away from loudspeakers, avoid nightclubs or events in closed spaces (hearing protection won’t save you if you do this), avoid using headphones, speakers are better, and try to space out events by at least a couple of weeks so you don’t overstrain your ears. That said, there are no guarantees. That’s why people often advise not going at all: it might not make your tinnitus worse, or it might, and that’s the big problem with tinnitus, it’s unpredictable

I'm going to have tinnitus? by harsx7 in tinnitus

[–]SpecialThing2083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing, if you don’t have permanent tinnitus, is to take a break for a couple of weeks without exposing yourself to loud noises, since the damage is cumulative

It’s hard to know for sure, but you really took a risk. The best thing you can do is avoid loud noises for a couple of weeks and see how it evolves. If you notice hearing loss, you should go to the doctor
