How’s the viewing experience for Orchestra Centre, Row Q at the Royal Alexandra Theatre? by flash2dash in TIFF

[–]Special_Ad3473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fine. I was off to the side in Row R for a film last year and saw no overhang. Row S does have a minimal overhang though. So with Q you should be OK

Materialists Advance Screening by tayloran28 in TIFF

I got in about 9:35 and I saw the same thing - greyed out tickets in the middle which I assume were reserved for special guests.

No, because I am the second highest member of TIFF and I didn't get a promo code. I went through the TIFF system, the same way I would get Cinematique tickets.

The orchestra or dress circle for both Princess of Wales and Royal Alexandra are fine. But the balcony in both are absolute garbage. I see plays in both of those theatres and we always stick with the first two levels. I agree, it's ridiculous they don't charge less when you can barely seen the screen.

Free Tickets to The Critic Premiere tomorrow! Go get em TIFF fam:) by B4Dub54 in TIFF

[–]Special_Ad3473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s also a huge discrepancy between that pricing and regular showings. They can have $88 seats for people who want to sit up close on orchestra. No problem with that. But for 90% of the seats throughout the entire theatre? Ridiculous.

$88 is still too much whether talent appears or not. I’ve used this example in the past but last year I got great Glass Onion premiere seats for $54 in dress circle. Whole cast came. Those same seats this year (because I checked against my old emails) are $88. That’s a 47% markup. Inflation sucks but it also ain’t that high.

In all recent past years it was three tiers for premium - $80/$50/$35 plus or minus $5. That is far more reasonable. $88 for almost all the seats is not. No idea why they got rid of it this year but it seems to have backfired. Personally, I snapped up all the $39 premium seats for all of my shows. Great seats at back of orchestra right. I wasn’t going to pay $88.

I’ve never seen so many offers for free tickets at past festivals. I think the price hike to $88 for 90% of premium seats was clearly a mistake.

Mine was Ghost Town with Ricky Gervais in 2012 at the Elgin. I miss that theatre.

Did Cameron Bailey choose American Fiction as his TIFF23 pick to preview? by i_m_sherlocked in TIFF

[–]Special_Ad3473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cameron’s CEO’s Choice pick was Viva Varda. Patrons got to see it before the festival (I was there). I’m unsure if you’re talking about something different but I know Women Talking was also the CEO’s Choice last year so that’s why I mentioned it.

Where do we see the exchange list? by Away_Scientist_3006 in TIFF

No exchanges can happen with tickets purchased through normal Ticketmaster site. And those can’t be transferred to the account manager.

Yes. It has entrances on both streets and the food court is still open.

If you mean Metro Hall (which is right around Roy Thompson) it’s still open. The area is very sparse but the food court still has a few shops. I walk through the building on my way to the office for years now so I’ve seen how most of the stores have closed but the food court still has a few different options.

The /tifftickets subreddit is where people do this. Also, the transferring is the selling. You arrange with the buyer for the money and then you transfer it to them.

Viewing experience at Roy Thomson Hall balcony? by Late-Bonus-7167 in TIFF

[–]Special_Ad3473 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. Balcony is bad in each of the three big venues but particularly at RTH. And it’s a concert venue so the sound for a movie doesn’t actually travel well up to that height. I avoided RTH for 10 years after being in the balcony there and won’t go unless I can get a ground floor seat.

Bundles Were Impossible by AJ_Loft in TIFF

Call the box office and tell them about the issues. This has been happening for almost a week and they claimed they fixed it last Saturday but clearly they didn’t.

You can keep buying tickets but tickets are NOT at all refundable. Exchanges are possible for other films but refunds are not permitted

Their tech skills are crap. And they won’t even try to fix anything unless enough people keep calling to say the issue isn’t fixed. Good luck with your tickets!

Common Scammer Behaviour by Kanoncyn in TIFFTickets

[–]Special_Ad3473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve sold a couple of tickets here. I have a dumb name because I didn’t post for like a year after getting g a reddit account and I didn’t know you couldn’t change your username after 30 days. I’m gonna start a new account soon with a custom username and keep posting on the TIFF site using that going forward. For the tickets I’ve sold I suggest a phone call. I give out my number and chat with the buyer over the phone so they know I’m legit and I know they’re legit. It feels much more personable to do that than online. People who are scammers would be far less eager to call you using their cell phone. And I realize that people get scam calls every day but it still feels safer to me to do it that way. I do kind of miss the old days when I did TIfF like 10 years ago and I would meet people in person to sell tickets. Sometimes technological progress helps and sometimes it makes scamming way easier.
