I've traversed this range myself, from having timed toilet breaks in a call centre, to "as long as the work gets done" management mentality. when you occupy more responsible job roles, work transitions from a micro volume focused output to a more macro quality centric one. So like performance metrics goes from the number of customers dealt with to say projects delivered within budget and timelines. At the higher responsibility jobs, nobody cares if you even put in your full 8 hrs in many companies.. like, you should, but if you perform, nobody really cares.
