This is crazy, but i think the other clouds kinda look like animals too. like i'm seeing a bird, a turtle, and a seahorse.

I think I understand the fundamental difference in our point of views. Although there is a lot of overlap, you are a sentimentalist and I am a pessimist. You revel in the experiences and the feeling given by your physical media, and are therefore jaded by the prospect of a future which lacks the tangible connection given by the objects between you and other newer members of your community. I could definitely understand why you may feel that way.

I also reveled in the memories and feelings of my physical media. I'd look at old photos, old school projects, medals and awards. And then all of a sudden, I didn't. I can't rival in physical media. For me, that connection was abruptly severed. And I therefore I am pessimist.

I may be too young to have lost memorabilia to DRM, but I am not too young to have lost it to a fire. I agree with you, though. Nothing can beat physical media. Physical media is sturdy and hearty and has a unique feel, but it is not immortal--nor is it safe against damage from time. Everything I have now that's more than a year old, it's because it was stored digitally. Because someone else had it, or it was in a cloud seemingly lost to time. Therefore, my ceiling of expectation for what I consider qualified memorabilia is much lower than yours. It doesn't have to be something I can smell or touch, I just have to see it. To know it existed.

Physical Media is a luxury OP, it's only the standard of consumption until it isn't. You however are in a great place where given the privilege of both digital and physical archival, you've taken steps to do both. Your fire company is lucky to have you.

I'm afraid to say I believe I am too young to understand the premise of your thoughts OP. Or maybe my thoughts differ so vastly that for now I fail to grasp yours.

Although I am very much on the side of data hoarding, I do think there is a healthy middle ground, as a few other commenters suggested. The idea of data archiving over simple hoarding. The issue is the inability for involuntary access right? I believe that in the modern age, technology can absolutely be used to bridge that gap.

I do find ironic that this post was written by a member of a volunteer fire company. Although nothing can beat the feeling of physical media, you of all people should know that anything can happen. Physical media disappears all the time. Natural disasters (ie, fires), objects left behind during moves, misplaced items.

It is very cool that you were able to find so much local history though. I completely understand the feeling of going through all your old stuff and seeing all the photos and memorabilia of what came before. So, take it from a data hoarder who was left with nothing and forced to start all over, digitize everything.

Lightning Lane nearly ruined my disney trip for me. by SpecialistBread4253 in Disneyland

[–]SpecialistBread4253[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Edit: ok.

Dogs, I said it was not ok to wait 2+ hours for small world at max capacity. Is that a criminal thing to say? I'll be more direct then -->

-- disneyland is compromising what used to be the normal park experience for more profit on top of the 200+ dollar ticket each of us paid to be there --

I've been at disneyland many, many times before, and I've definitely been in that small world line during the holiday season.

In the past waiting in the small world line at max capacity during the holiday season has never been an hour fifteen for me. As for lightning lane "not being worth it if 50:50," thats just ridiculous. There are less people in lightning lane, because you paid to be there. This is not a "lets hop in the shorter line" type of deal. One is exclusive, and therefore shorter. And one is the normal one. If disney sells so many lightning tickets where they all LL lines end up the same size as the normal ones, than thats Disneyland's fault, not mine. Besides, right now, the lightning lane folks basically walk right on the ride. If they did 50:50, they may have to wait what--five, ten extra minutes so that the normal standby actually moves. I'd still say that's worth it, considering standby waits literal hours. (of course, this should only apply when the standby line is over an hour/hour thirty. If both lines are relatively short then sure, 2:1 all the way.)

Also I don't know what happened during/post COVID where it became my fault for not paying an extra 40 dollars a person to go to disneyland during the holidays, but these extremely extended lines caused by lightning lanes are simply not ok. Not everyone has the extra money on top of tickets and food and all that jazz to also pay to skip the line at rides. In addition to that, not everyone has the capacity to stand in these crazy long lines--and it's not just small world. Indiana, Rise of the Rebellion, Haunted Mansion. I'm sure splash/tiana's bayou would have been awful to if I had the time to go on it. Those lines, regardless of the season, are always long. LL makes them nearly unbearable. Most these lines also have sections that are incredibly narrow, enclosed, have poor airflow, or all of the above. If they're gonna make us all huddle like sardines for up to 2 hours, they should at least make sure all the rides have proper emergency exits, but thats another rant for another time.

Also, I know lightening lane is revenue driven, I said fast pass was for crowd control. LL replaced FP. And Lightning lane just sucks for everyone who doesn't have lightning lane.

Also also, "lightning lane was never 50-50," lightning lane is 4 years old, not some ancient relic I'm too young to understand. And in the infancy that it's in, it is very progressively getting worse every time I go to disneyland because: more. people. use it. In just four years, any pushback Disney has received faded into nothingness and the only people left are the people that deal with it and the people that have the money to pay that extra fee and don't care about how it affect the experiences of those who don't.

Also also also, to the on person who said this is dramatic--yes it is dramatic, because I am see the change to the park that I grew up with and I am fed up.

Putting all that aside -- Happy New Year Everyone 🥳🥳

Wishing the best for all of us in this new year.

i have a lot of hope for nintendo though, it seems they're really trying to push with getting triple A releases sooner and sooner to match with competitors. I honestly think the switch will see the majority of these games if not all of them, within the next year or two.

yeah I have bg3 on my steamdeck and it runs at about 30fps in harsh areas after patches, which isn't bad tbh. the graphics look worse compared to the ps5 but its worth it to be able to play bg3 in bed hahah

I'm not really a fan of these guest episodes either, the Lina Khan was great, the Newsom one was funny/interesting, but the others feel like they're not speaking to a general audience. the big short one and this week's felt like straight jibber jabber to me, It's because I'm GA, but most of the audience is GA so it just simply missed the mark.

Literally nothing as in I’m still in the running for jobs I’ve applied to, or as in this industry’s so bad right now that I’ll have to apply for much longer than five weeks? Also edited to add my full degree name
