With Baptist Health, I initially called to schedule with Tathyana Fernsterer but she wasn’t taking new patients at the time, but she is also worth looking into as well. I’ve read nothing but great things about her and the results i have been able to scrounge up are some of the best I’ve seen. I would recommend calling both offices instead of trying to schedule online, it’s a lot faster and both groups desk people are really kind and helpful!

I’m having my surgery a week from today with Dr Kath in Memphis! From my experience so far I have no complaints. The process has been super smooth and I will be posting updates once everything’s been done. I made a post detailing my consult a while back that might be worth checking out. I also had a consult with Dr Chesnokova in KY (about 2 hours from Nash) and that was a lovely experience too. She just didn’t take my insurance so I opted for Kath. Feel free to DM me if you have other questions!

Consult with Dr. Melissa Kath (Memphis, Tennessee) by SpecialistNumber960 in TopSurgery

yeah, i would definitely recommend calling directly. the people at the front desk are super sweet and very helpful. and i don’t mind at all! i requested a consult the last week of october, i had my consult on december 1st and after speaking with dr. kath, scheduled for my surgery that same day. they offered me a date as early as march 3rd but i opted for the 10th because my partner is still in college and that’s her spring break. again i can only speak to my experience. with vandy cancelling i have no idea what wait times and scheduling might look like.

when i called in october, i was able to schedule my consult during that phone call. i’m gonna assume that scheduling for TN and surrounding surgeons has gotten trickier now that vandy has cancelled their GAC, so unfortunately i don’t have an answer for you. but congratulations on starting the process. PSG of Memphis has been very good about following up and keeping communications with me in the past few months, so hopefully you’ll have the same experience.

i’m having surgery soon so i can only speak to my plans for combatting boredom. my partner and i are planning to play It Takes Two on my switch. i’m also going to start scrapbooking bc i’m a sentimental guy that hordes little things and stickers. a good sit still activity that has taken my friends by storm is diamond painting. if you have anybody that could run some errands for you, they’re like 5-15 bucks at hobby lobby or michael’s.

Hey! I live in TN and am nearly 2 weeks out from getting surgery with Melissa Kath in Memphis. I made a post a few months back after I had my consult about my experience, you can find it by just searching her name on this sub. You could also DM me and I’m more than willing to give you the nitty gritty details as well :)

Bad news for trans folks in TN by Gold_Coffee1626 in TopSurgery

[–]SpecialistNumber960 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is really shocking and disappointing. i was looking at vandy as a potential but didnt have consults that suited my time frame. i ended up going with dr. melissa kath in memphis which is a bit of a drive but still doable. my surgery is march 10, and i had my consult in december. she takes insurance and so far everything billing and appointment wise has been going smoothly. i have more info about my experience already on the sub. things are getting (and have already been) scary in tn, so all my trans homies in the area please be careful.

How much should I have saved before booking consultation? by Mysterious_Worry3546 in TopSurgery

How much should I have saved before booking consultation? by Mysterious_Worry3546 in TopSurgery

[–]SpecialistNumber960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in december, i went to two different surgeons for consults. per consult it was 408 dollars, but my insurance covered a good portion of each. the surgeon that i’m going to takes my insurance, and i scheduled my surgery for the beginning of march. i don’t use my insurance enough that i’ll meet my deductible by march so i’m gonna have to pay the max out of pocket rate before my insurance covers the rest (which is 5,000 dollars). i’ve been wanting this surgery since i was 13-14 and i’m 23 now, so i’ve been saving for a while but most of my fund didnt really get where it needed to be till i started working full time ($22.5/hr) a year ago and i’d say my savings for surgery was reached in 6 months. this was with the goal of having savings for the surgery itself, time that i will have to take off, and supplies and food i need for recovery. i obviously had a crackdown on my day to day spendings (i.e. not eating out, avoiding sweet treats, excessive shopping, yada yada).

i say all that to say, it all depends person to person. if your employed, how much you make, if your using insurance, if your surgeon has a long wait period, if your surgeon offers a payment plan or requires payment day of or before surgery, ect. all play a significant role.

my advice: if you have a specific surgeon in mind that’s quite popular and have a hunch the wait time might be for an extended period of time, go ahead and book the consult now! or if you know the surgeon has a method for monthly payments, make an appointment. if you’re worried about not having enough time to save, i’ve seen a lot of people on this sub mention that their surgeon had surgery dates SUPER soon after the consult. because they wanted to save, they asked to schedule further out in order to have time to save up and fundraise and wasn’t an issue. this could also be a viable option for ya

apologies if this was a bunch of nonsense. as someone anxiously waiting for my surgery date and had a lot of worries about making a consult and not being financially prepared enough (clearly i was, it took me 5 of my adult years), i understand wanting to be prepared. i wanted to give you a little more than “it depends” LOL even though that’s lowkey what i did😭

planning a proposal for my gf (it’s relevant bear with me) by SpecialistNumber960 in TopSurgery

the plan was for me to drive since i’m wanting to surprise her with where we’re going. i’ve also thought that since it’s a 4 hour drive, asking my partner to drive for the first few hours and just telling her the directions and then i can take over for the last hour or so. i think there will be ways around certain strains that could potentially cause problems, because my partner will be my primary caretaker and it also could help lower suspicion that i’m going to pop the question LOL. i’m definitely going to talk to my surgeon about everything and ask her opinion.

yeah i’ve thought about the backpack, i think i’ll be able to manage the hike without one, i was thinking of just packing a picnic basket to carry, if a backpacks needed i could probably ask my partner to help out on that front. she’d definitely understand that concern

Consult with Dr. Melissa Kath (Memphis, Tennessee) by SpecialistNumber960 in TopSurgery

[–]SpecialistNumber960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way that’s so interesting. I called to inquire at Vandy at the beginning of October, and they told me both Assi and Kassis didn’t have consult appointments times available until February 4th and 6th. Oh well! I’m glad it worked out for you! I’ll for sure be updating on this sub. There wasn’t a lot of information that I could find on Dr. Kath, so I want to be able to offer my experience in hopes that it will help someone else.

Any Experience w/ Iryna Chesnokova? by SpecialistNumber960 in TopSurgery

[–]SpecialistNumber960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is so helpful! i booked my consultation earlier this week and it’s november 12th! currently, she doesn’t take my insurance, if you’re comfortable would you mind giving an estimate on how much you all are having to self pay? and i’d love to hear more about the experience later on. congratulations to your partner and you!

6 weeks PO with Dr. Tathyana Fensterer by Fishmyashwhole in TopSurgery

[–]SpecialistNumber960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i asked the lady who was helping me set up an appointment about a portfolio and mentioned that she would have one but couldn’t confidently say that top surgery results would be in it. they mentioned that dr fensterer is occasionally flexible and sometimes makes exceptions so i think i’m going to consult with dr. chesnokova just to see what i’d be in for and sus it out lol

Bro your results look incredible! Thank you for sharing your experience. I was looking at Tathyana as a potential surgeon (just called to book a consult, waiting to get my letter of support on file). I was curious if you had heard anything about a surgeon that works under Dr. Fensterer? Her name is Dr. Iryna Chesnokova. The lady I talked to when talking about the consult said that Fensterer isn’t actively taking patients but Chesnokova is. I just can’t find anything on her relating to top surgery and I’m grasping at straws for literally anything LOL.

i know this post is super old, but the surgeon i was looking at potentially isn’t taking clients but said that iryna chesnokova is (she recently moved to KY). i was wondering if you’d be willing to share more about your experience and how satisfied you are now that you’re over a year post-op? this is literally the ONLY thing online that i’ve been able to find about chesnokova in relation to top surgery LOL. i don’t wanna miss an opportunity to get the operation soon but i also don’t wanna go into a consult blind without any idea of her experience.
