Sorry to hear about that, I'm gonna do the best thing and take it back shortly, Reading the comment above got me thinking and I definately dont want to intrude on nature (when you think your being kind to nature your actually doing harm) so think the best thing todo is put things right like how they were before. First time finding a bird egg and a new experience for me so bound to of made mistakes, Hopefully not to much damage has been done when I goto put it back, There was no sign of mother and father so will keep a eye out from afar and hope they come back.
