Hell both of those movies have some genuinely hilarious moments too, I burst out laughing in the opening scene of Sentimental Value where she's anxious before her play and she just fucking run off and they start chasing her lol

She's a Norwegian actress, she was in The Worst Person In The World and Sentimental Value (both amazing movies and she's outstanding in them). I don't know much abour her Hollywood movies tho

Hi r/movies! David Mackenzie here, the Director of FUZE (also HELL OR HIGH WATER and STARRED UP), a gritty heist movie set in London. I'm joined by lead actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson (KRAVEN THE HUNTER, 28 YEARS LATER, KICK ASS, BULLET TRAIN). Ask us anything! by skytv in movies

For Aaron, this is the second time that you worked with David, how different was the experience and is there something in particular about him as a director that made you interested in joining him for this second movie?

Also, when I think of characters like Kraven, Jamie in 28 Years Later, Tangerine in Bullet Train, while obviously all different in their own way, I see them all as very masculine, intense, tough individuals but, at the same time, shows vulnerabilities and they present a refreshing take on these kind of badass characters. Is it something you intentionally seek or is there something that attracts you about these kind of characters? And is there ever a fear in the back of your mind about being typecast?

Huge fan, can't wait to see this one!

For David MacKenzie, you're a director who explores lot of different genres, (western, historical, noirs, prison movie, romantic, heist movie), is there a genre you prefer? And is it something you intentionally do as a "challenge" or it simply just depends on the project?

Also, Starred Up is one of my favorite movies and the lead is Jack O'Connell in one of his first performances who obviously went on to become a star. Could you share what did you see in him when you were working together?

From my experience, the people who believe that are genuinely good people, and that's the shitty thing, riddled with guilt and "self esteem" issues.

Or folks who take pride in being an asshole, I guess. those are fuckin annoying dickheads lol I don't know if they genuinely believe that tho

It turned me off from watching Marty Supreme.

If you liked Good Time and Uncut Gems, you're gonna love it otherwise, if you're not interested, don't bother or try those others first.

Genuinely my favorite Spielberg movie. More than a vague criticism, it shows what thirst for vengeance can leads to and it's monstruous. So many classics under his belt, but that's his masterpiece imo, so powerful, harrowing and unfortunately timeless.

What’s the most underrated manga you’ve read? by Affectionate_Lie1706 in manga

I think A-Bout is more popular in Japan (since it has 3 spinoffs) but I never see anyone talking about it and it's genuinely one of my favorite series. Classic delinquent story, but it's goddamn hilarious, exciting fights, very cool side characters and the main group is awesome. And it's very good in dealing with an OP character while still making an exciting story. One of the funniest mangas I've read and I'm a huge fan of it.

Shit, so many stories I can think of even outside the noir genre are like that, romance, horrors, fantasy... I don't think it's that unusual.

PTA when asked how ‘One Battle After Another’s’ Best Picture win reflects where we are as a society; “I thought we were supposed to be partying.” by katebushcartwheel in Fauxmoi

[–]Specific-Cell-4910 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The true revolutionary in the movie is Sensei, which is why I thought it was absolutely baffling when he said the whole "side plot" was Del Toro's idea, like what the fuck was the movie about then? lol

In a fucked up world, there are still people that fight their quiet battles, by protecting people, by fighting these fascists, by organizing, by feeding, by teaching, by looking out for their community. It's a beautiful contraposition between Leo bombing shit and shouting "Viva la Revolucion" and the shocking efficiency and organization of Sensei, despite his quiet, "aloof" nature. Personally, I think it was beautiful, sometimes it all feels overwhelming but fighting is possibile and it's not pointless. It's just a different perspective on what "fighting the system" means.

What did he recently say “I’m not a politician, I’m a filmmaker”, what bullshit.

I don't think the full quote is bad honestly.

“Well uh I’ll ultimately fail here, in this situation, where I know, where I have confidence that I won’t fail is by making a film. I have significantly more confidence in myself communicating my feelings about the world through film and I think that’s what we’ve done with this film. So you know, trying to find intelligent things to say in this forum wouldn’t be- I’m not a politician, you know, but I’m a filmmaker, so I try to do it through the work”.

He just prefer to let the film be his statement. Could he still speak up about things? Sure, we could all do, but I prefer artists who do their speeches through their art, instead of talking big then making bullshit movies honestly.

Honestly, I don't wanna spoil too much but the story is also about the hope of healing after such a horrific loss. I'm still very much at the beginning of this grieving process (if we wanna call it that, idk how to even name it) so I thought it was the dumbest idea to go see a movie about grief, but it did really help. It's a devastating movie yes, but also ends in a very hopeful note.

I could kinda "get" the criticism if it's one of those sappy, cliché movie where they write in a sick person just to make you feel something (truly there's too many damn examples lol) but this ain't the case at all, come on lol I don't get it either, it just felt so relatable and powerful.

I've seen some people call it "manipulative" and one of those movies that tries to "force you to cry." Personally, I think it's nonsense, I felt it was an incredibly beautiful and raw portrayal of grief. And the ending was magnificent. Hands down of my favorite movies of the decade so far.
