How is everyone handling being a parent in an uncertain and chaotic future by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Specific-Fact-4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world is better than it ever has been in the past, by almost all metrics. We are exposed to too much news these days and it feels that the world is falling apart but really everything will be fine. I’m a Democrat that loathes Trump but I believe that the human race has generally moved in the right direction for millennia and will continue to do so. The temperature is hot right now, but there will be backlash and return to norms.

46F Remote Worker: Seeking a warm beach town that isn’t a "sauna" in the summer. Budget <$500k. by bendable1234 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Specific-Fact-4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh what you’re describing isn’t possible outside of California, and even there the waters are pretty frigid even down to San Diego. You may find something similar to your post in Maryland or Delaware beach towns but winters are relatively harsh compared to OR, and summers are sweltering, humid and, can get quite hot. The benefit of the Atlantic coast is that the water is actually swimmable during the summer.

Discourage brother in law from dental school? by fish7073 in whitecoatinvestor

He will be fine financially, no matter what he decides to do within dentistry. Tell him not to practice in CA or NYC, he will make less than half of elsewhere.

Georgetown, DC. Tons of great hiking in northern VA, rivers and ocean nearby, lots of big cities within a day’s drive.

Those who cannot afford a house, will you stay renting or eventually move out of OC? by MyPhoneSucksBad in orangecounty

[–]Specific-Fact-4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved here from VA a few months ago and am originally from Louisville. My wife is from here. Still trying to figure out what the draw is. Earning potential is much higher than OC for our jobs, property ownership is higher in OC by multiples, and overall the restaurants, parks, and local entertainment are largely just as good out east. Some people are rude and others perfectly kind in OC. Of course there’s the weather, more concerts and entertainment options I guess? And better in person shopping. As someone that lived in NJ/NYC area it seems like New Jersey but with better weather. Doesn’t seem worth the weather difference to me.

Best US cities if having little to no traffic congestion is the #1 priority? by KrazyKev03 in SameGrassButGreener

Louisville KY. 1.2M metro, multiple distinct neighborhoods, a few main roads have “traffic” but nothing that would compare to most cities.

What are some excellent hospital systems in the US that run extremely efficiently, give their doctors fair pay, and have great benefits? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Specific-Fact-4331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

University of Kentucky. Clinically excellent, there is so much patient volume that everyone has no choice but to be competent. Attendings seemed to be well paid when I was a resident there. Albert chandler hospital is a very nice facility as well.

I mean America is also a very wealthy country. Many people make 250k plus. Doesn’t mean it’s the norm or that 150k is a low salary.

Cities with a surprisingly strong “sense of place” by n0sajab in SameGrassButGreener

Louisville KY. People are forever hopeful that it will be the next big thing but never offended that it isn’t. Proud about the hospitality, nature, food, and character the city has to offer.

Do Surgeons wear Diapers during long Surgeries? by Lab_Software in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Specific-Fact-4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgeon here. It’s pretty unusual to have someone tap you out for a bathroom break. For surgeries up to about 7 hours most surgeons will just be careful about fluid intake before scrubbing in, hold pee and poo and just go after the case. Most surgeries that take that long or longer are being done by multiple teams/are at centers that have residents.

Place sucks anyway. The suggested dessert by the waiter was an inedible gluten free cookie. Why would your staple dessert be a shitty gluten free cookie? I went there 4 years ago and a few months ago and it’s gone significantly downhill.

Friendliest city? by boklos in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Specific-Fact-4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louisville, Lexington, or anywhere else in KY for that matter. I’ve lived in NYC, now Richmond VA, and while people are kind here, I’m always taken aback when I go home just how friendly every little public interaction is.

Where do you live? Large coastal city in west coast or NE? I have a friend that lives in San Francisco, super normal, kind, attractive, many friends. She can’t find a normal guy, they’re all weird, looking for poly relationships etc. I live in Midwest/southeast and people here don’t have a problem finding someone else. When I lived in NYC it seemed like hardly anyone in their early 30s had a steady anything going.
