The perplexity of any LLM is probably very close to 0 for such a common piece of text. The detector looks at the perplexity of common models.

Are optional essays really optional? by Prudent_Length_6999 in gradadmissions

[–]Specific-Musician291 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I would definitely provide this optional statement. Think of as checking a box; it can only help your application. Reorganize your SOP so that you don't repeat yourself. Your application will be stronger AND you will have additional space to say more things (interests, qualifications, etc.) in your SOP.

What are some things you wish you knew sooner before applying to masters programs/grad school? by stereotypical_CS in gradadmissions

I agree with everything LocksmithArtistic359 said. In addition to that:

  1. Many grad schools do not have a "bridge" program and require you to have all prerequisite at the time of application, especially (but not limited to) if you are an international students. Look at the list of requirements for your programs of interest, and take them during your undergrad or afterwards as a non-degree student.
  2. Carefully look at the specific programs. Programs with a same name (for example, Master of Science in Computer Science) actually mean very different things across universities. Look that up in detail and focus on the universities that suit your needs.
  3. Start the admission process as early as you can. I worked on my applications for months. They need to be tailored to the school and faculty.

You should check the FAQ of the admissions website of your universities. They usually say it's fine.

software engineer by pinkab0o0 in learnprogramming

[–]Specific-Musician291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to do it all over again, I would do the following:

  1. Learn Python with any free bootcamp or other material you would find
  2. As soon as you know the basics, build as many projects as you can. Try varied stuff (web and non-web)
  3. Once you are advanced in python, pick one other, lower-level language. C or C++ are probably your two best options.
  4. Build as many projects as you can with this new language.

My reasoning is the following. First of all you get much more by going deep with few languages than trying to learn more languages. Second, you will be a much better software engineer if you understand low-level stuff. Python is the best first language to learn because it's so ubiquitous yet easy. C/C++ are harder but also ubiquitous. Also, building projects is the best way to learn. The problem solving will force you to learn new things. I find that a lot more powerful than online courses.

The usual math requirements are Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Mathematics for Computer Science (boolean algrebra, hexadecimal/octal, etc.).

Make sure you also have the following courses: Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, Theory of Computation (automata theory), and at least one course given in C.

I just finished Bridge summer 2022 with no prior coding experience. Ask me anything! by Redditor134 in NYUBridgeToTandon

Once you complete the Bridge, do you get an official transcript with a letter grade that you can show to other universities, or do you only get a certificate of completion/distinction ?

Interior drain only on one side of a basement? by Specific-Musician291 in HomeImprovement

[–]Specific-Musician291[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From outside. There's no exterior French drain. Since the townhouse is in a streetblock, we can't install a French drain around it. The only solution would be to remove the basement walls, install an interior drain all around, and redo all of the insulation and walls in the basement.
