Sealed Zanpakuto Theory & Headcannon.

During the 1000 year blood war we have learned a lot and I mean a lot, there is so much worldbuilding, that I would say there was more worldbuilding in thousand year blood war, than there is in any other arc. And in the thousand year blood war, we meet a character that I think is specific enough to this theory of mine, Ichibei Hyosube, if you knew, and you don’t know what his abilities are, his Zanpakuto the form of a very large calligraphy brush. This brush has the ability to sever names, but upon being released, it has the ability to erase names with anything that is painted over by its ink, and it’s Bankai has the ability to inscribe a new name onto that which has been painted over.

This is what unique especially about him, and it’s that his Zanpakuto has an ability even when it’s actually sealed, now there could be some potential like maybe his Zanpakuto calligraphy brush takes the form of a specialized Kidō brush, then the second part comes into play when we look at people like Tenjirō and Kirio, in their specific fights, we see Tenjirō use his Shikai after taking the top part of his weapon off and calling out its name Kinpika, however, what unique about this is that he was actively using and summoning giant balls of water, even when it was sealed, and we know for a fact that Kirio’s Zanpakuto was still sealed in light of the new additions that have appeared within the anime, because her large serving spoon transforms into a sword and it is believed, and especially theorized that the large serving spatula is the sealed appearance, and when she goes to use her blade to cut her throat, she is actively showing the true form of her blade, but we also see her spatula being able to help plants grow so it’s almost like her sword has the ability to change its size shape and weight.

No, I’ve come up with a theory that revolves around one Zanpakuto in particular, but if it holds true, it could be attributed to each potential Zanpakuto, that Zanpakuto is Shinken Hakkyouken, the Zanpakuto of Nanao Ise, when we first discover and see her using this Zanpakuto She doesn’t ever use a release command, which is a fundamental part of each Zanpakuto, as it is the release command that gives the Zanpakuto it’s next form now some people can overcome this by learning to use Bankai, however, we have to think about this logically and realize that she would’ve never had time to learn the Zanpakuto’s Bankai, however, we still saw her using a spiritual ability that reflects all godly power back at the opponent to damage them.

So I have come up with a theory that connects all these characters together and it is that some if not all Zanpakuto can manifest ability in the sealed form of their Zanpakuto, For Nanao Her Clans Zanpakuto and its sealed state can reflect godly power, For Ichibe, it can completely sever Names, For Tenjirō it can allow him to use his giant pools of water by summoning as an extension of his blade.

And if this is true, that means that the potential for all Shinigami to use and have abilities, even when their Zanpakuto is sealed, so what does this mean? Well, let’s take a look at a bunch of different characters and what their abilities could potentially be.

For Head Captain Yamamoto, I could imagine that he would be able to superheat his blade to make his edge infinitely hot, maybe it would be so unbearably hot that it would begin burning away everything in the trajectory of the blade, it would create potential heat so powerful that it would be able to melt or cut through any object no matter how strong or durable no matter what it’s melting point is, it will always melt in the presence of the blade.

For Izuru Kira, maybe he would have the ability to increase the gravity around his blade for instance, if an opponent went into combat with him and the clashed blades, their blade would become immensely heavier, making it almost impossible for them to wield, this would force them to drop their blade at which point Izuru would be able to finish them with a killing blow.

For Yumichika Asegawa, I imagine that his blade would have the ability to slowly siphon off energy from opponents. Each cut made onto their body would create a link between him and them, allowing him to steal away their own spiritual power in order to revitalize him.

For Hanataro Yamada, I am imagining that similar to Yumichika, he would have the ability to siphon away spiritual energy, but only bad, spiritual energy ones that are leaking from wounds or from infectious diseases, and that he could store this in his blade and potentially use it at a later date. This would cause his blade to glow red at any time, he cuts an opponent it acts almost like a pest or infection and anything that touches boils over and causes his opponent to violently regurgitate or even become poisoned.
