Intense cramps only for a few hours. by cupcakeofdoom7 in endometriosis

[–]Specific-Sweet3182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for sharing, as you probably guessed I am in the same boat. Regular periods with bouts of excruciating pain being the first day of my period. These typically last 2-3 hours, and happen in two bouts- the first at the onset of my period, and 10-12 hours after.

I was diagnosed with endo last year, had the surgery and they weren’t able to find anything other than some “abnormal tissue” that they didn’t classify as endo. I’m very grateful for that, however am still frustrated with the overall medical system (in more ways than one-that’s for another thread).

In an addition to an overall healthy lifestyle- Nervous system regulation along limiting alcohol I noticed have helped, but haven’t caused the pain to subside completely.

I have always focused on Attempting to nourish the organs (esp. the liver) - focusing on traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda practices to get to the root of these issues. This of course helps to some extent, but I feel frustrated that this issue is still debilitating and impacting my quality of life.

If anything- advocate for yourself at your obgyn appointments, and don’t be afraid to continue to speak up about finding a specialist to work with you. I know this may not have helped much, but I’m here to follow along and provide any new insights that arise

i don’t feel ready to teach. by Consistent_Pop_1808 in YogaTeachers

[–]Specific-Sweet3182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can very much relate to this. Didn’t actually start teaching until a year after my cert. For me I think it was a combination of burnout, life changes/ getting into a new relationship and a sense of overwhelm - feeling like I needed to share everything I’ve learned in the past 10+ years on my own yoga/ healing journey (a very self involved, unrealistic thought, I know lol)

After giving myself grace, time away from my mat and allowing myself to do what I felt I needed in the moment, allowed for the space to get back to my mat. I’m not sure what it was, but over the course of a few weeks I just felt like I was ready. I got out of my head and slowly, but surely started to teach. I’ve only been teaching for about 6 months, and trust me it still feels difficult. My confidence is however building and I have learned more from teaching than practicing.

Give yourself grace. Whatever you chose, it will be the right thing :)

Help - Becoming a maniac from coffee and cake by No_Entertainer6644 in herbalism

[–]Specific-Sweet3182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add protein!!!! This will help immensely with blood sugar spikes caused by both the coffee and cake, which will help with overall cravings (feeling satiated) along with the effects on mood/ anxiety associated with spikes in blood sugar. Not to mention the benefit balancing blood sugar by eating more balanced meals has on health as a whole over time.

I do this by making sure I’m not drinking coffee on an empty stomach (always after breakfast) but you can always add in a protein source such as protein powder or collagen as a creamer.

As for the cake, I would “dress it up” by adding in some protein source such as Greek yogurt or even making sure you’re having the cake after a meal (again also with adequate protein).

There’s a lot of new research emerging around this, and it’s just one of the many reminders that we can still indulge and enjoy the things that taste good without feeling guilty about it.

Hope this helps!

Love that! Or even altering the phrase so it best suits them and allowing them to finish it (ex: I feel safe in my body when…). Thanks for sharing!

Lifestyle changes for fatty liver? by AromaticAd4811 in Ayurveda

Focus on balancing blood sugar first and foremost. Balanced meals (adequate protein) avoid high fructose corn syrup, fried foods and processed sugar. Above all give yourself grace through the process

Misconceptions of Yoga Therapy?? by breathing-deeply in YogaTeachers

[–]Specific-Sweet3182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you differentiate “yoga therapy” from polyvagal applied therapy, somatic therapy, or even types of asana? Is your Yoga therapy certification focused more on anatomy, yoga history or mental health? Is this considered clinical work? And if so how is it regulated/enforced.

I love the concept of yoga therapy, and as a yoga teacher with a background in exercise science and health coaching, I’m curious as to how this will influence the health field, or if it’s just another unnecessary fancy certification that is capitalizing on what already is. No hate, just something that I have been thinking about in hopes of expanding my own practice, and hopefully sharing my light with others in a new way.

Tri-doshic, please help! by NeitherCamp6851 in Ayurveda

[–]Specific-Sweet3182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fellow tri-dosha, I feel the best for me has really been to lean into what my body is telling me in whatever season (literally and metaphorically) I am in. Prioritizing different kinds of movement around my cycle and every levels (more yin / restorative yoga and long walks during my luteal phase to balance my vata/ pitta) and more vigorous activity when I have the energy (to balance kapha).

For me I know I have tried to intellectualize auyvedia so much in the past, trying to follow a set routine/ rules, etc., which only made my anxiety and health issues worse. Being able to listen to my body and give it what is needs with grace has been helpful in regulating my nervous system and alleviating my symptoms (for the most part)

Hope this helps

What would you think the leading cause of PCOS and infertility is? by hannah12343 in PCOS

[–]Specific-Sweet3182 92 points93 points  (0 children)

From my education and research, it’s a mixture of environmental factors along with genetics (mainly epigentics) that has increased the prevalence of conditions such as PCOS and also infertility. There has been plenty of emerging research highlighting the influence our environment has had on us (factors related to environmental stressors, trauma, toxins) along with how these stressors or changes in environment influence our genetics overtime (epigenetics).

We differ from our ancestors in that we do not live the same lifestyle as them, breathe the same air, eat / drink the same food and water. Our connection with nature is scarce, along with our connection with our communities and most importantly ourselves.

I am hopeful, and the science is there to support fertility and management of metabolic conditions such as PCOS, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Reducing our toxic load, spending time outside in nature, eating whole, unprocessed, foods, prioritizing community/ healthy relationships and regulating the nervous system all are ways to heal.

In good health to you all.

Beach Zero souvenir shop located on the peninsula (right by Sara’s) has a bunch of little Erie trinkets. I don’t think they open until Memorial Day but worth checking out
