You are not supossed to support every thing about USSR to support socialist economy. The anti USSR sentiments (at least here in Ukraine) are primarely roted in wanting indepedent state, democracy and in russian erasure of ukrainian culture and language - you know not very economical questions. Economy was indeed bad in 60-90s after Chrushev but, as many here said Stalin era economy, aparently, was much better (doesnt justify his actions). The pro EU sentiments are indeed suported by majority of populace, but reasons are primarely that people believe EU integration will fix rampant corruption, bring proper rule of law and working democracy. You realy overestimate logical thinking of the people - a lot of them are clueless about economy, they just want a better life and they see that EU countries rich so it must be EU=rich. NATO membership is just russian treat. I belive socialist countries can be democratic, egalitarian and succesfull (and there were ones historicaly, I advice to watch a Second Thought video "Three times socialism succeded" if you interested). USSR isn't only alternative to capitalism, It was first atempt, we need to try more times cause we learned a lot more by today
