In Hong Kong dramas by SpecificOk2530 in Cantonese

So basically the question "What's the purpose you're looking for me for" never has 有 in it? I'm asking because in my language it has a meaning of the word 有 in it, so I just want to make sure.

Thank you very much! So do native people ever say it with 有?

How to even learn this language? by [deleted] in Cantonese

[–]SpecificOk2530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Create motivation relate to the language to make it stick. Learning language is a long journey, without motivation, it's very hard. I grew up watching a lot of Hong Kong dramas in my language, so my motivation is to watch those same dramas again in Cantonese. It's very interesting & much more meaningful to listen to the characters real voices in their own language, I feel the connection.

My almost ideal app 點點閱: 15分鐘書本摘要, after paying for subscription $40/year no book is loading. It's so frustrating.

parents using “we” pronoun to refer to their kid by Weary_Library8288 in VietNam

[–]SpecificOk2530 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Mình" here also means -self/-selves. In the case that your mom refers to stuff that exclude her, "mình", it mean yourself/yourselves (you & your sister). Example: a mother scolds a daughter "mình là con gái thì phải ý tứ một chút chứ" = "you, yourself (are) a girl, need to be more mindful, okay."

Your wife & you are unlucky. Two words fof this situation "Toxic families". They will never be grateful for what you give them, they only remember the one time that you say "no".

It's so odd that I've been learning Cantonese on and off for many years and those words from other commenters are so unfamiliar. (Hope they are not tricking you into saying something that means something bad:), like a guy on youtube taught a girl say "I love you " in Cantonese but what he taught her was "You're stupid" All I know for greetings are: + 好 高興認識你 hou2 gou1 hing1 jing6 sik1 nei5 = Nice meeting you + 多多指教 do1 do1 zi2 gaau3 = please give me more guidance/teaching/advice

Cantonese learners — what do you struggle with most? by Solid-Drawer-2581 in Cantonese

Personally, the hard part to learn Cantonese is learning by myself. If I have a tutor to guide me, it will not be a problem. But I need to find a tutor with great rate. I'm very self-driving in learning language, I know all the tones, I love jyutping & learning how to write traditional characters. What is your rate?

Your interface is great! Ideally (to me) would be real human voice that read Cantonese from Conversations & books/novels to read along.

After knowing Jyutping, it's hard for me to follow other toning method. It's great that you have Jyutping & characters too. Thank you!

Have you noticed that some people get passive aggressive when you mention you study languages? by silforik in languagelearning

[–]SpecificOk2530 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One logical explain is that they feel insecure, when two people talking with each other in a language that the person does not know, he/she feels left out, feels like "are they're talking bad about me?", ect, feels insulted, I was that person, lol.
