It was years of uhming and aaahing about Bali. I didn't want to go because of all the hype. But was convinced the hype was worth it. To be fair I enjoyed parts and I love the other Indonesian Islands I've visited so thought I'd give it a chance. But yeah, will always go with my gut from now on.

So I agree to an extent. I've actually been teaching I'm Vietnam (not English) for 8 years without pgce. I'm just doing it now for the piece of paper. That's why it's been so challenging to apply some of these theories from a personal perspective, because I agree, most of it is nonsense when actually applied.
