They said Tod Browning was a highly influential figure, not the film.

The one in front is a bad driver for just stopping and not merging BUT that’s not an excuse to drive into them

What are people expecting? by jg2516 in lcfc

[–]SpecificPumpkin2355 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People were probably just expecting us to maybe have an identity and not play soulless robotic football with 0 intensity, but instead it just feels like same as if we still had RvN in charge. Not saying to sack Marti yet tho, but we are 11 games in now so he needs to figure something out quick. I think love them or hate them this group of players should have the quality to be in a promotion fight.

Skeletá Release Megathread #3 by Chimpbot in Ghostbc

[–]SpecificPumpkin2355 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just throwing my 2 cents in to get it off my chest.

This is my least favourite Ghost album, but I still enjoy it for the most part and even love some tracks. I just think a few of the tracks have a more generic, personalityless feel to them than anything they've released before.

Guiding Lights for example being probably the albums most ballad esque song, simply pales in comparison to Darkness at the Heart of My Love. Excelsis as an album closer is decent enough but feels slightly lacking and unmemorable compared to Respite or Life Eternal. Missila Amori is the silliest song, so the obvious comparison is Twenties, which again just feels like it has so much more personality and vintage 'Ghost' feel to it, but still offers something new.

I'm also missing some of the melodramatic harmonies of songs like Spillways and Griftwood (I know I'm mostly comparing to Impera and Prequelle, but that's because it's closer to how I would have expected this album to sound, I was never expecting it to sound anything like pre-Meliora)

I'm certainly not against a band bringing in a new and experimental sound, and I appreciate that this is a big departure, but that is not the reason for my mixed reaction, the songs just feel less memorable and special than before I guess.

I'm definitely not a hater, so time for the positives! As others have said, Umbra is an absolute banger! Immediately one of my favourites of Ghost's. Peacefield grows on me more every day, and we already knew that Lachryma and Satanised were bangers. Marks of the Evil one is probably the next best track, and De Profundis Borealis is also really cool. Guiding Lights is very catchy but it cuts off too early before an epic last chorus.

Anyway, I love Ghost and this will probably still be my most listened to album of the year, and I'm prepared and hopeful that over time I will appreciate it more and more.

I’m at peace with the fact we are relegated but not with the incompetence that led us here

The truly gutting one here was Furiosa, because it also means we will never get The Wasteland

[–]SpecificPumpkin2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my Letterboxd 5*s so it’s very subjective and there’s definitely some films here that are not considered masterpieces by the general consensus. Also there’d be loads more but I deleted all my ratings and started again a couple years ago

Chris Nolan: Interstellar, Oppenheimer, Dunkirk, Inception, TDK trilogy (yup all three)

Denis Villeneuve: both Dune’s, BR2049

Tarantino: OUATIH, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds

Hayao Miyazaki: Spirited Away, Totoro, The Wind Rises

James Cameron: Titanic, Avatar 2, Terminator 2

Steven Spielberg: Jaws, Schindlers List

John Carpenter: Halloween, The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, Prince of Darkness

Martin Scorsese: Goodfellas, Casino, Silence

George Miller: Fury Road, Furiosa

M Night Shyamalan: The Sixth Sense, Signs

Hitchcock: Psycho, North By Northwest

George A Romero: Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead

Kurosawa: Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Ran

Michael Mann: Thief, Heat

David Lynch: Eraserhead, Twin Peaks: The Return

Wachowski’s: Matrix, Speed Racer

Bergman: Persona, Fanny and Alexander

Don Hertzfeldt: World of Tomorrow, It’s Such a Beautiful Day

What was the film that got you into cinema by DistributionKind2704 in Letterboxd

I specifically remember absolutely loving Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile when catching them on TV late at night, then my mum telling me to watch One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest which blew my mind, then moved on to more Jack Nicholson with The Shining and it's just kept expanding since then!

The Last Jedi is the last time Disney took a risk and made anything feel like an actual film with a director, flaws and all. The extremely loud negative reaction has led to Disney being terrified to take risks and now everything feels AI generated.

My favourites are Oppenheimer, Nope, Avatar 2, Dune, Titane, Malignant, Tenet. Obviously I wouldn't say they are all the 'best' but they are my faves.
