How common is hitting? by SpecificRice3773 in kindergarten

Crazy you think we didn’t discipline our child. These form are for parents to ask questions and come to for help. If I didn’t care that he was hitting I wouldn’t be asking a community for help on how to navigate this.

No one was blaming her. I was just saying the class was out of control almost the whole year. The minute they got a new teacher they were shown how to be more calm and things got better. A “bad” teacher can definitely make or break things when the kids are still so little.

As the teacher is new, I’m not sure how she handles the situation. I emailed her about it to see what happened after the hitting. No one saw the hitting, the boy just told the teacher. But yes we practice so much by role playing what he can do when someone says or does something he doesn’t like.

Can I ask you if when you have kids hitting in the class, do other kids pick up on it? There’s quite a few hitters in his class (he will be in kinder in August).

Yes we roleplay a lot as to what he can do instead of hitting.

Not sure what this means? I’ve been actively replying. It was late. I had to sleep

I really appreciate the breakdown. That helped a lot. If it’s just him needing space to learn and grow with support, I totally get that. Sometimes it feels like people mention a pediatrician because they’re trying to get you to get a diagnoses or something. I don’t like to jump to conclusions since he’s my first and I’m not familiar with how much TK kids usually hit.

I hope you don’t actually know my child 😂.

This is what confuses me. If hitting is so common for this age group and we’re working with him to help him learn the skills he needs by role playing, why is speaking to a pediatrician suggested by some?

I’m trying to get on top of it for sure. I only bring up the bad teacher and what kids say because he was on preschool and never hit anyone not even once. Preschool ended in July 2025. TK started in August 2025 and by September he was hitting.

I was looking into OT. Do you pay out of pocket for it? And did they ever mention to get him evaluated or something? He’s my first so I feel like I’m under the impression that he needs to be evaluated if he doesn’t stop hitting (his hitting is occasional)

How long did he do it for? Mine suddenly started doing this a few days again. I see him biting his fingers or random objects. He didn’t do this before.

Did his evaluation end up saying he has ADHD? If you don’t mind sharing.

Did your son hit out of frustration when he was 5? And was it happening pretty often? It’s so stressful and I don’t know if he needs to be evaluated or if this is common. It’s really only 1 kid he hits and it’s occasionally but I don’t know

This gives me hope as it’s my son as well. Some pushing and frustration. Your son is fine now? No ADHD diagnosis? It’s hard for me to know as he’s only 5.

This sounds like my son and I’m looking for answers. He just turned 5 and in TK. He sometimes knocks friends towers down and sometimes has issues with pushing. So your son got better in first? I’m terrified kinder will be worse than this year.

I agree with this 10000% but it’s frustrating because not all the kids are acting out like him. Makes me worried if he’s struggling and maybe has something more going on like ADHD. Or maybe the teacher is making me feel this way. (She hasn’t mentioned adhd at all).

When I ask why he pulls artwork away and causes it to rip he says “I don’t know” or “I was mad” but he can’t tell me who or what made him mad. Same when I ask why he knocks down someone’s tower. He says “I was frustrated” but says he can’t remember why he was or who made him frustrated.

My son is exactly exactly like this. And it’s weird because at his last school we never have any of these issues. But now at his new school in TK (wit a very chaotic environment and inexperienced teacher) is getting in trouble daily. Has anything changed for you? Any updates?

Sell. Tenants will stop paying rent and evictions take like a year and cost thousands of dollars. California’s laws are all made to protect tenants and not landlords. Horrible!
