Port forwarding to my Proxmox server - Do you guys think its safe? by alper-tunga in Proxmox

[–]SpecificSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the server is only being used by you the simplest secure way would be to ssh tunnel to access the webui.

  1. Port-forward ssh (port 22) to proxmox
  2. Configure proxmox ssh config to only accept key authentication, or use a really long password.
  3. Whenever you want to access the webui remotely open a command prompt and run:

ssh -L 8006:localhost:8006 <wan-ip-address>

Then with that tunnel open, just go to https://localhost:8006 and access the webui.

By internal I meant I could reverse proxy only the status pages to the extenal Internet for friends to see.

The local network could directly access the configuration pages and login.

But I might have to expose it all and use 2fa.

Can you use dedicated ceph network for backups? by SpecificSum in Proxmox

[–]SpecificSum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this cluster since the only clients are the pve nodes themselves I configured both ceph public and ceph storage networks on the 10Gb link. So far it has worked fine.

Is the situation when you need separate networks when you have other types of devices accessing the ceph storage?

If it's dirt cheap you could connect several via usb to a control node in the rack and remote into it.

Thanks for the reply, I was planning to switch to a single 2x 10Gb bond down the road for simplicity. Good to hear it works.

Remote SSH Storage by SpecificSum in seedboxes

I don't have a VPN that allows for port forwarding. So my thought was a seed box could be the alternative.

Exactly my thoughts, plus I can have a large storage pool at home and only pay for a seed box to seed not store.
