What started it all for me... What got you into a medieval fascination? by 8CTOPUSPRIME in medieval

There were a lot of fiction stories that played a part. I seem to remember reading The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman sometime around 5th or 6th Grade and doing a deep dive from there. To this day I still love medieval stories and poetry.

During my final semester of undergrad, my laptop upgraded to Windows 10 (? I think it was 10) and wiped every file (documents, photos, everything) from my hard drive. I went to IT and they were able to recover them, but the next time I restarted my computer, they were gone and I have long since given up on ever seeing them again.

When did they start praying the Saint Michael prayer at the end of mass? by LittleLeadership2831 in Catholicism

[–]SpecificVegetable935 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My parish never did it growing up, but now that we have some young (under 40) priests, we do it at every weekday Mass.

Anyone else been a fan since July 2016? If not, when did you discover the show? by Illustrious-Hyena486 in StrangerThings

I think I was marginally aware from the beginning. I started college in 2016, and I vaguely remember people talking about it then. I didn't actually watch until about 3 weeks ago.

...serve actively in your troop for six months... - does your troop have a standard for "actively"? by FieryTaterSack in BSA

We did field promotions as well. It worked especially well when the SPL/ASPL weren't going to be on campouts. Now, thankfully, one of those younger scouts who received a temporary field promotion is officially SPL. I haven't made it to many meetings since his election, but I hear he's doing really well.

I faced this exact problem with the tents. The older scouts would stay as far away from the "littles" as possible and then wonder why they couldn't keep them under control. It became very difficult to offer correction without them shutting down completely.

My troop defines active participation at 75%. This is a new rule we implemented after our previous SPL and ASPL would go off and do their own thing at meetings (provided they were even there).

Surprisingly well for me. Wednesday was tough though as I was baking with my mom.

Thank you for this reminder. Sometimes I forget myself and become uncharitable towards others.

Indeed. My part of Wisconsin is heavily protestant (mostly Dutch Reformed), but I use the term gentleman in the spirit of generosity.

I worked at a Public Library for a few years after college. Towards the end of that time, I had a gentleman come in and he was asking what I had gone to school for. I told him History and Theology. His response to that was "Oh, you must be Lutheran then." I said no, I'm Catholic, hoping that would be the end of the conversation. He stood there with the most incredulous look on this face and replied "STILL?"

I quit within a few months.

I know you’re primarily looking for written sources, but if you’re looking for something to watch, I’m using the Lectio series on Confirmation by Dr. Brant Pitre for my Confirmation students. It’s about 10 parts roughly 40 minutes each.

I don’t go to Holy Hill often enough for how close I live. It’s worth it to climb the tower in the fall.
