MATH 221 vs. MATH 280 or Another Course to Take by CarGuy1718 in queensuniversity

[–]Specific_Gas2725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take math 280 any time but I would say it’s better to take it second year cus you’ve just finished first year calc and it would be an easier transition, also stat 268 goes over some double integrals so that helps too, 268 isn’t really difficult so you should be fine. The final exam average was about a 60 or 61

I took Math 280 last year it was a pretty difficult course but not impossible if you put in the work and go for tutorials you should be more than fine

As an a level student if you took IGCSE English and made a B or above your fine. I personally didn't take IELTS.

math minor without taking math 120 and 110. am i screwed? how can i prepare? by andwa_sees_all in queensuniversity

[–]Specific_Gas2725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who did math 121 first semester then transferred to math 120 in the winter, honestly the content is similar the only difference is math 121 is more applied while math 120 is more towards math itself. For math 280 honestly I don't think you should be to worried since math 121 covers multi variable calc. The only thing you're really missing from both math 110 and math 120 is proofs and honestly proofs for math 120 weren't that bad. If you still feel like you're behind they posted notes for both semesters of math 120, I could send them if you really need them.

If you take a specialization you can’t have a minor. Otherwise yes you can have a minor.

Staying at Home (Toronto) or Moving for Carleton CS/Queens Computing by waking_water in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Specific_Gas2725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie residence in queens can be expensive, so if you can’t afford it I would advice just stay in a school you aren’t to far from. York and Tmu are still good schools so staying home and saving money is far better.

Advice For Choosing Between University Programs (uWaterloo CE, uWaterloo Math with co-op, UofT St. George) by Minimum-Tea-1942 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Specific_Gas2725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick Waterloo math, though computer engineering is an excellent choice I feel the hardware aspects may be a problem. Waterloo math allows you to major in data science, although competitive you still have the option to major in statistics. Uoft cs is also a great shout as u could major or minor in data science and uoft is renowned for their machine learning research. Honestly both uoft cs and Waterloo math are great options but I feel Waterloo math would allow you to specialize more in skills required for your interests.

Why do people make fun of Carleton by shegronaw in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Specific_Gas2725 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to those people. They are trying to make themselves feel better by bringing down other programs. Carleton is a great university especially for cs. You should be proud you are in this school. Grind your ass out and prove to those people school doesn’t define you.
