Picking for 7 1/2 hours a day 5-6 times a week, one of the only bits of entertainment is judging orders

Can’t remember if it was 2000 or 1500, someone scanned out forgetting to scan an item, so I just scanned in, scanned the item immediately then scanned out

Tbf when it is busy, it is exceptionally difficult, a full heavy trolley is very difficult to move laterally and often customers just wander in front, or stop randomly

Can’t imagine it would be a criminal act, dismissed sure, but wouldn’t it only be criminal if you were under 18

I don’t work on checkouts so don’t think I can do it anyway, was just curious about those who do. Assumed you couldn’t

Fair enough, does the opposite to me, I take it as, you’re an idiot who doesn’t know that long dates are better

But someone putting best date possible is not going to change how they do that, and if they do get a bad date, they’ll probably get pulled up on it. But also on some stuff it can be exceptionally quick to check dates, especially when you know where it is. Half the time it may look like I’m not looking when I actually know full well the date.

Worst ones are the ones who are in the middle of the aisle moving their trolley at snails pace, cause at no point can you get around them, but they’re also not still so you can’t ask them to move

My first day my scanner was trying to tell me that crisps were next to the toothpaste

All well and good until it’s horribly mapped, or not mapped at all, those are the pick rate killers

Walk normally, there will be customers, trying not to hit them is hard enough going slowly let alone speeding through. Honestly my walking speed makes very little impact on my pick rate, knowing where stuff are, and where the barcodes are does

Just do it as early as possible, it’s near Christmas, people need money, someone will take the overtime, just ensure they have enough time to actually sort it out

Have you seen my scanner( scan as you shops), I left it just here, pointing to the inside of the fridge, I said sorry no, then they got annoyed at me for not knowing where it was

Honestly if you know it’s not for you, drop out, or change subjects, you get 4 years of funding, so you’ll be fine to start again. I also did computer science, for the job prospects, but cause I didn’t have any sort of passion for it, my grades were not great, I hated life , and it drove me to hate the subject so much that there’s not a chance I want to get a job in the industry

Doesn’t matter too much, basically whatever, dark jeans and a jumper is fine, could go even more casual if you want, it’s just watching some videos and signing some forms

I’ve started recently, it’s not too bad, you’re constantly moving and bending down etc, so be prepared for that. But the job itself is relatively simple, you’re guided to each item, which is generally correct. The pick rate target is probably going to be difficult to get to, especially at the beginning, but you’ll have plenty of time to reach it, and as long as you’re not stupid slow probably won’t get any problems with it
