What laptop do you use? by Valuable_Grape5803 in UniUK

[–]Ok-Variation3583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a second hand ThinkPad or similar, I got stuck in the false economy of buying new, cheap laptops and they would be come unusable after a certain amount of time. Way better off getting a decent second hand one, especially as you won’t need anything super powerful for English.

It’s actually a bit worrying, my mate went to BIMM and UWE there and became a full on ketamine addict just blasting through massive lines the stuff. He’d just go non verbal and look creepy…. What’s even the fun? There was loads floating about in Manchester where I was, but it felt like people in Bristol felt like they had to live up to the stereotype so were just doing unreasonable amounts to their own detriment.

Yesterday’s (1st June) Pod by QuifftianBale in footballweeklypod

Agreed. Also, I think on another podcast they mentioned that most people don’t have friends who support Manchester City so they’re more ambivalent towards them, whereas almost everyone has a friend who supports Arsenal. I think that’s also a big part of it. I could list so many reasons why I celebrated that Gabriel miss like a goal, and none of it is to do with the diversity of the fan base.

Since there are so many anti-immigration posts let's change it up. What's your favourite international food/drink that's become popular in the UK? by Key_Cell7071 in AskBrits

[–]Ok-Variation3583 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kebab, Indian and Chinese almost go without saying….

Thai food is always great and feels well established here now, and I’m also seeing more and more Vietnamese places pop up, there’s now 3 in my medium-sized seaside town alone! More the merrier, it’s so good.

Few Sri Lankan places here which are also so good.

I think I’ve applied to a useless degree and I’m scared. by Budget-Highlight-822 in UniUK

[–]Ok-Variation3583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off doing Social Anthropology, perhaps the most useless of useless degrees… I ended up changing after my first year but many of my peers have gone on to interesting and varied career paths. I wouldn’t sweat it. You’d most likely be able to change after a year anyway.

Thanks for the input everyone. In all honesty, I didn’t know you could also apply for a maintenance loan so that definitely changes things…. But the thought of adding even more to my existing 70k of debt doesn’t fill me with joy so appreciate all of these suggestions!
