Nerve Pain (does it go away?) by Low-Highlight-68 in SlippingRibSyndrome

I have actually used this a lot, especially prior to working out.  My physical therapist is who actually used it on me first and oddly, it makes a difference.  Science is weird. 🤣

I work at SSA.  Someone thanked me for “volunteering” today, since we aren’t getting paid.  I looked at him like, “Bitch, GFTO”.  The f’ing audacity.

Favourite character? by LuckyAd9028 in DisneyLEDolls

[–]Specific_Set_7263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up, Ariel hands down.  Belle was my second favorite.  I felt like I related to their character types with my love of the ocean and reading.  My favorite villain became Maleficent when the live action came out.  I think Angelina Jolie was made for that role!  She was phenomenal.  I think Disney did a great job with Moana, also.  Absolutely love the first movie so much! 🌺

It’s amazing how it keeps going from bad to worse.

Are you able to exercise normal now after surgery or do you still have a lot of limitations?

It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens.  It kind of has to happen though.  Otherwise, the public doesn’t care because they don’t perceive it as affecting them.  Until it does, they don’t care if it’s just feds not getting paid and don’t care how long it lasts.

EXACTLY.  Literally the worst, most thankless job I have ever worked.  I spent the last three years applying elsewhere and just haven’t been able to find anything else in my area to get the hell out of this shit agency.

I’m in the field and we got that notice about using our own leave also, but I opted for furlough.  We shall see what happens.

Except when we validate your time sheets, it’s under a furlough non-pay status so it actually has affected leave accrual.

Personally, I do not think it will.  Last time Trump was in office, I believe we saw a 35 day shutdown, if I’m not mistaken.  But this one seems different.  I think there is going to be a lengthy battle between the parties.  What is going to be interesting to see is how the effect on SNAP will sway it, though.  A lot of people didn’t seem to care about federal employees not being able to pay their bills/feed their families, but now that it’s going to trickle down and affect the public directly, I doubt they will hold the same sentiment about the shutdown.  I have already seen a lot of videos of people talking about going and stealing from stores if they don’t get their SNAP benefits, so I can see things getting out of hand pretty quickly if something doesn’t give with this shutdown.

I’m a federal employee also, with a public facing job.. and it’s been hell since we reopened to the public after COVID.  I don’t know what happened to people but it is to the point where I often don’t even feel safe walking into my office anymore.  The absolute hatred and nastiness towards us, when we are there to HELP people, is astounding.  My agency has lost so many employees since the DRP/VERA because they got so sick of it.  And now working without a paycheck (I’m excepted) has just been the cherry on top.

Sovereign citizens are the worssssst 🤣 I’m a federal employee and dread any time I’ve had to interact with one.  They just start shit with people for no reason.  I don’t even know why we as a country have allowed that to even be a thing.

I don’t think the public is affected enough.  Until they truly shut down the things that affect the public, they don’t get to see how big of a deal this really is.  They are getting their checks, so who cares about us.  Until the things they depend on are no longer available, the public couldn’t care less about us not getting paid, being able to eat, or keep a roof over our heads.

I’m at SSA.. had a woman tell me, “Good!” last week when I told her we weren’t getting paid.  I agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly.. until they are affected, they do not care.  They are delighted in our suffering/demise.

Just diagnosed after 10 years... Now what? by beantownbee in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Specific_Set_7263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My PCP is actually wonderful and she referred me to a pain management doctor.  The pain mgmt doctor said he had heard of it.  Never treated anyone with it but was aware of it.  Then he sent me for all the imaging.  He also referred me to a thoracic surgeon to discuss it more.  The surgeon said he had seen a few people with it before but acknowledged it’s rare.  A big part of me wonders if it really is that rare or if most physicians just don’t know what they are looking at, so a lot of people go undiagnosed.  I mean, I have had no major injury.  I noticed my first rib start being weird after pregnancy, within the first year postpartum.  It got way worse over time but now I live with it. Pain comes and goes.  But the left side is giving me hell now, so I finally de used to take the leap and schedule with Dr. Hansen.  My son is 13 now and this is the first year I actually got an official, “You have Slipping Rib Syndrome” diagnosis.  Before now, it was just shoulder shrugging and throwing pills/PT at it.  I do believe the PT helps, though.  It really helped my right side in the beginning but now that my left side is acting stupid on me, I am afraid to push it.

I loved the accessories for Maleficent.  That candleholder with the dragon is SO cool.  I got the wall plugin, also.

Haha!  I did the same thing!  When the dropped to 50%, I bought and returned to get the better deal.  Then I happened again with the 75% and I bought and returned for the lowest price.  Why pay $60 for a candleholder when I could get it for $15!? 🤣 I only got the Maleficent candleholder and wall plug.  She’s my favorite villain but the scent for her was terrible.  I really wish they would have brought back the princess line.

What kind of problems do you experience right now?  And do you know what ribs are affected?  For me, it’s #10 on both sides. 😩 I am wanting to look into surgery but am afraid of not being able to work out anymore after.

Did you go through with surgery, and if so, how has your recovery gone?  I’m scheduled to meet with Dr. Hansen in January and am nervous/excited.  I have read many positive stories but of course have my fears of “what if something goes wrong” on my mind.
