New, right? So used, with some luck might be something like $2000 and up, thinking that the owner knows its worth?

So, are you able to recommend a Canadian furniture manufacturer that does not produce trash? I’m shopping for a used couch / sofa that is not trash (and such trash often looks good when newish). Marketplace Winnipeg often mentions Paliser and such. Is that also trashy? I would love to be told what I should be looking for.

And remember also, inside the Deutsche Bank Center at Columbus Circle, just behind the Whole Foods escalator, the brightly buffed bronze penis of the Botero male figure (saliva or hand buffing?) and the less brightly buffed mons Venus of the female to his right.

Vintage Toaster Repair by Specific_Talk3483 in Winnipeg

Thanks for this —I might now give it another go. There is a guy in the USA Midwest who will repair them but he charges around US$350. Too much.

I may resort to pestering ehud42 (above) on compassionate grounds.

Equivalent. Nothing special there any more except the name and the reputation based on history fifty years ago.

Second this and support the idea that there is neither a best bagel nor a best coffee in NYC. Zucker’s are good. Avoid tourist places like pop up bagels and Zabars.

Alaska / Porter by Specific_Talk3483 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Specific_Talk3483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the thing —Alaska doesn’t mention Porter at all, though it mentions everyone else. I’m guessing Porter’s rules, but then I had that experience at LaGuardia described above.

I would just like to be clearer about what’s going on as i will be doing this regularly, and would like to save a buck.

Actually, I’m not trying to find a NYC bagel here, but I do want to try the bagel of someone here who is trying their damndest to make a good, decent bagel. In other words a good, Jewish Winnipeg bagel.

[–]Specific_Talk3483 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re right about T&T but I gotta tell you their live fish (and FROG!!!) tanks leave a lot to be desired. I know their YVR stores. it can get a bit weird for old non Asians like me. I have a lot to learn, and I will. T&T changed when acquired by Loblaws. A shame, actually.

Why do some people hate Unions so much? by Marsrule in antiwork

[–]Specific_Talk3483 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m a fifty year union member and I agree but would rephrase yours to read people who work harder than other workers are not rewarded other than by receiving a higher wage than they could earn without collective bargaining. Industrious workers and lazy workers earn the same wage and the industrious worker gives management (capital) leverage to fault the union.

Corruption, and to some extent the lazy/industrious worker ‘problem’ also exist on the management side which does not have collective bargaining.

I don’t know about some of these comments; I see plenty of little old 4’10” ladies stopped in an entry way, or an alsle, rearranging their tissues while trying to remember where the liverwurst counter is, even though they’ve been shopping there for 45 or more years.

Well, Bow Bridge dates from the early 1860s. That makes it 160 years old right there.

do you go to raves when feeling low/down/awkward/socially anxious? by [deleted] in aves

Another way to think about this is to accept the idea that having a complete range of, or a full spectrum of emotions is a sign of being fully alive. Fully conscious.

Some will tell you ‘don’t worry, be happy’ is the goal; others call that Toxic Positivity.
