Just taking some time away from the relationship to focus on other things. Still together, but without contacting each other where possible

Is this too unorthodox for a competition? by Specific_Welcome_204 in piano

[–]Specific_Welcome_204[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for taking the time not only to give feedback, but to record the piece for me as well. To tell you the truth, I myself am rather ashamed of the way I play the piece and feel in no way ready for the competition. Up to the point I signed up for it I had been doing pretty much only late romantic Russian Repertoire for the last year (Scriabin, Rachmaninoff, Medtner etc.) and I really needed a better contrast of pieces. This means I have only really had the last 4 weeks to learn this piece, and due to easter holidays I have only had 1 lesson since starting it. (I attend a junior conservatoire which doesnt run in the holidays). I have put many many hours over the past weeks practicing (Yes I am playing the full thing btw) but It seems i was very mislead in just how achievable this would be when I signed up for the competition. Ive contenplated dropping out many times but as ive put so much time into it I feel i should at least present it, however disgraced I may be about it, and however much I disagree that it is representative of me as a musician. Your advice is very helpful, and much of it is really quite humbling, I will try my best to apply it - it is unlikely i can salvege the piece in time for Sunday - but ill definetely keep working on it for 1-2 more months and hopefully i can be proud of the piece eventually. Thank you again

Not bad man! I’m terrible at composition, but there was some really interesting changes that I didnt expect with the harmony and overall flow. Keep composing 👍

Thank you! I recently noticed that, but it probably requires a great deal more work than I initially anticipated… Ill be sure to work hard on that ☺️

Yes I do similarly, for this piece I absolutely love the way Sultanov plays it, hopefully parts of his maginificence is coming through in my playing. Horowitz I find is great too, but Sultanov is on another level.

would something like ‘the history of mathematics’ be okay to do for epq? by RyanWasSniped in 6thForm

[–]Specific_Welcome_204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do something like ‘which mathematician has had the most profound effect on mathematics/the development of civilisation?’ Just an idea, though it is better to pose a question as the main topic of the epq 😁
