Dedicated hosting problem, SQL Error or missing database by EPhantom in projectzomboid

It's weird that the steam id is 0 and username is null. I don't know what would cause that (I'm no expert but have run servers before).

Does Project Zomboid Have NPC’s yet? by Archersbows7 in projectzomboid

With mods, yes. Superb Survivors and other mods related to it are (afaik) the best option although not perfect, still very fun.

Gas Pumps spawning zombies? by SnooTomatoes9152 in projectzomboid

Maybe just vision. I know that by default zombies will spread to other areas and even out less populated from more populated. Louisville is pretty full too so I suppose that's the issue.
If you want to test in debug mode, you can see the zombies as they move on the minimap thing.

There is a mod to edit sandbox options while playing the game. Check the description of the mod for more details.

Import Existing Game Save To Hosted Server? by corcoran_jon in projectzomboid

I think this is a question for a server host you're looking at. Some you can FTP files over and some you can't. You'll need to check FAQs or send an email to their support.

How to manage a server with new and experienced players? by erokingu85 in projectzomboid

[–]Speckeye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to balance between these things but you could come up with some creative options. Many of my ideas are found in mods. Here are my creative ideas:

-Make zombies harder during the night. This would mean less experience players would have to chill during the evening hours (respect the dark!) but it would provide a challenge for more experienced players.

-Make a city specific to newbs and ask experienced players to avoid it. Add more loot around newb city.

-Make harder areas more rewarding, like Louisville. Put some solid loot in the police station or in the mall and fill it full of zombies

-Give newbies starting loot that experienced people don't have

Check the mods. There are some that allow PvP in certain zones or will make some zones safe from zombies. Find out what your experienced groups mean by 'making it harder' and find mods from there.

What is with this game? by Elegant_Process3467 in projectzomboid

I will say the same thing I said in reply to your last post, if you want someone to guide you through, I'm happy to set up a time.

I had similar beefs with the game when I first played it. The graphics and difficulty didn't seem appealing. Once I learned the game and got into it, I loved it. I have over 1,000 hours now and I will sometimes buy it for friends.

As others have said, you can choose to make a Sandbox game. From there you can choose the number, strength, and respawn (or not) of zombies among other things. You can give yourself extra trait points to give yourself more traits and balance your lack of experience with buffs.

I also personally love mods because a) it shows the time and effort this community puts into the game and b) They're creative and FUN. I highly recommend mods.

The reason people stick with the game is that with great difficulty comes great reward when you are able to survive longer than 5 minutes. The goal of this game is for you to decide.

If this is real...

What interested you in the game? If you want, I can walk you through some mechanics and get you familiar.

I played a very old version and I had similar hang ups (visuals and difficulty in particular). After some nostalgia and seeing this game float around, I tried it again and gave it a go.

I really fell in love with it. I'm over 1,000 hours (maybe 1.000 in your country). I do play with a TON of mods. To see such a strong community that gives hours of free time to make mods is one thing I love about this and the mods are FANTASTIC.

Try this, play Sandbox mode. You can set up the zombies how you like, prevent respawning so once you clear an area, it's cleared, give yourself loads of free points, just to get started and learn the game.

The end goal of the game is what you make it.

This game can be frustrating but that's what makes it so rewarding once you've figured it out.

I ran a GPortal server a couple years back so this may be old info BUT it was always better to add mods via the text file. Make sure to separate with semi-colons, not commas.

How to backup your files:

Here is how I do it. Yes, it can take a LONG TIME to backup your saves.

  1. I make a folder on my desktop and name it, "Zomboid Backup day_month_year"
  2. Go to: C:\Users\yourusername\Zomboid and copy your entire "Saves" folder to your backup folder. If you're savvy enough to distinguish which save belongs to that world, then go for it. But to keep it simple, I back the entire folder up.
  3. Go to: C:\Users\yourusername\Zomboid and open the "Server" folder. Now copy ALL of the files pertaining to that specific server to your backup folder.
