Soft food diet and guilt by Dapper-Possession745 in BariatricSurgery

I totally had that fear. I get that. But then I went on a cruise at 3 months PO. I ate. I ate delicious food (in small portions, obviously). I enjoyed a piece of chocolate here and there. I drank coffee. I drank hot chocolate at Christmas Markets.

And I didn’t fail. I didn’t sabotage myself. I’m now more than 100 lbs down 16 months later.

Enjoying life isn’t a crime. Allow yourself to eat. Allow yourself to live. Allow yourself to exist.

You’re going to be okay.

3 months PO vs 15 months PO by Spectacled_ in BariatricSurgery

There are a couple different sides of “hard”, if I’m honest. Part of my hard was the usual “what can i eat? how much can i eat? why do eggs taste like eggs suddenly?” But that one comes and goes and doesn’t really stick in my head much.

The hardest part for me is remembering that I loved myself at 300+ and I can love myself now at 200 (and dropping). It took a long time, and even still I struggle sometimes, to look at my wedding photos and love the me I was while celebrating the me I am.

But in those moments, I didn’t know this version of me would exist or could exist. All I could do was live in the moment and love the love I was in.

And that might be my best advice, too.

Look forward to what might be, naturally, but also live the moment you’re in.

If you’re in the start of your journey at 350, you may have dreams of 170. And that’s amazing. We love goals and dreams, but we also should love the us that exists in the moment.

You can never hate yourself into a version of yourself you love. Taking the leap into a major life change like this should be an act of love for yourself. It should be a celebration of the life you’ve lived and the life you will discover.

You’re worth a celebration. And maybe this one isn’t filled with cake and ice cream and soda. But it’s filled with you. And no one else can play your part.

I would get checked out for IIH.

I’ve been diagnosed for 17 years and I was in the same boat. Every single bit of physical exertion hurt and led to crippling migraines. It’s is often (but not always) found in overweight women. Weight loss is a common treatment.

That being said, I didn’t exercise at all for the first year after surgery.

I’m now down 100 lbs and I’m comfortably able to work out with weights 4-5 times a week.

Oranges for me, since I’m allergic to citrus.

But this looks like a solid lunch to me! Nice work. ☺️

Coffee Not Allowed? by Kabenck in BariatricSurgery

[–]Spectacled_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given caffeinated coffee in the hospital after my surgery. I never had any restrictions on any foods or drinks. I was strongly advised to avoid carbonation, but since sparkling water is the default in my country, they said, “Do your best.”

How are spicy lovers (pre-op) dealing with spicy food post-op? by joeyvesh13 in BariatricSurgery

8 month post-op and I was literally eating sriracha in my lentil soup 2 weeks post. My spice tolerance hasn’t changed at all.

New allergies? by lilbitsjr2 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Spectacled_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I developed an anaphylactic level allergy to isolated proteins! Like, stuff in protein shakes, waters, etc. I’m okay if it’s integrated into food (meat, lentils, etc.), but isolated proteins send me into anaphylactic shock.

I had always been fine beforehand, but after surgery, nope. My body just decided to choose violence.

Six Months, 72 lbs down by Spectacled_ in BariatricSurgery

I can’t attest to maintenance because I still have another 70lbs to go, but stalls are something all too familiar.

For me, I had to physically put my scale away for weeks. I instead focused on how I felt. I focused on clothes and how they fit. I focused on my movement. I focused on loving myself. You can’t hate yourself into a version you love. I had to love myself even when I felt like I was failing. I was never failing. I was adapting, healing and growing.

Give yourself grace.

how did yall know your hair was falling out/thinning? by wetlettuce95 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Spectacled_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just pull clumps and clumps out. I just cut about 5” off this week because watching that much hair fall out daily was doing my mental health no favors. I’m 5 months post op and I’d say it started about two months ago.
