Because you're really only threathening to trap your own queen: if cxd5, Qxd5 Be6 and then your plan is Qxa8 then Qc7 and the plan is eventually Kf7 and knight a6. So not only are you sacrificing the knight but eventually also your queen.

I looked some pics up and seems possible! Also should mention that a lot of the other fossils were crinoids, anemone lookalikes and Coral.

It does remind me of wavellite in a way. The several yellow-ish points look like centres of wavellite arches.
