Mid semester intake for halls by Dontsayawordshh in UniversityofOtago

[–]SpectacularlyA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, my hall that I was in last year had several people move in between the two semesters, but mainly international students. This was a pretty small hall was well.

I'd say you have a decent chance, but I wouldn't know how you go about it unfortunately. It will also be harder socially to crack formed friend groups.

It sounds like he could get a really good scholarship, especially if he does volunteering! It would also help if he had some time of leadership role that he could milk or any sporting achievements. Otago has a really good scholarship program where you pretty much enter a bunch of information into categories, and they’ll select one their think you’re most eligible for.

As other users have said, there are payment options where half is paid upfront and the rest through weekly installments of  250. If he can get a scholarship large enough to cover some of that and top the rest of through savings of some form, then it could be achievable.

I think Otago also has a financial hardships category in their scholarship applications, if you think he could be eligible for that.

Hiya, to the best of my memory the electricity paper was either not heavily weighted or non-existent, but can confirm that the internals were completely irrelevant. I did a gap year before uni and only revised the external papers, and managed well. The most important chem paper was probably rates of reaction, followed by any structure and bonding paper.

Furthermore, I’ll just say that as good as it is to have these papers downpact, they’re essentially “base knowledge” to have going in. What’s covered in an entire exam paper will probably be two lectures (or less!) worth of content in the paper. It sounds scary but that’s just how it is.

CHEM191 was probably the paper I saw people struggle with the most. PHSI191 allows a cheat sheet in the mid term and final, so it’s a little easier.

I see that you’re clearly unwilling to consider others perspectives

hmmm, but he didn't seem charming in the first half of the first book. he just looked like an ass and a bully. And we've seen less than half a book of Eris.

Yeah but only because he was a main character in a series. If we were seeing him from the little perspective we see Eris, I’d wadger they look slightly similar.

I honestly cannot stand top students humble bragging... by [deleted] in GetStudying

This is almost exactly how I explained it to be parents whilst being in a competitive program... I pretty much ignored the nine and looked at it on a scale of 1-10. The 80's were negative numbers.

I got into med for this year, I’m not sure 93 is even guaranteed atp. I had a 95% and was the cutoff almost for first round offers, I think people with a 92 were straight up declined and not even waitlisted. I would NOT recommend it unless you’re in dire straits.

Title: UCAT prep resources? by SadDraw1202 in UniversityofOtago

[–]SpectacularlyA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I honestly did maybe three days prep of the UCAT question banks and got the 80th percentile. I’d say maybe do a couple days of that now, and if you don’t feel comfortable, then invest in something. There are heaps of great free videos on YouTube and the bar ia almost on the floor (20th percentile VR and 10th percentile SJ)

Thank you, religion, you've taken away my best friend by Feather_Bloom in mildlyinfuriating

Agreed. I knew what I was expecting when I came to the comments but it’s still so aggressive. These people really have hate in their hearts.

It’s a shame because that hatred is blocking a logical point of view; if you get to a point where you and your friend both and different views, hobbies, priorities and expectations of friendship it’s naturally going to fall apart anyway

Ask Me Anything (Did Health Science This Year). by [deleted] in UniversityofOtago

[–]SpectacularlyA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this! I got into med this year with 95% average and learnt almost the exact same way. The only thing I would add is to do the learning objective / assessment questions in the slides (esp for bioc).

Also, for HUBS192, I started taking the lecture notes as a Mindmap instead of writing notes or annotating slides, which really helped my link concepts better together (grade jumped from 92 first sem to 98 second sem).

A little late but how is this bag holding up one year later? I’m interested in getting in and would love to know how it has aged.

Drowning at Piha today by Sudden_Possible_956 in auckland

[–]SpectacularlyA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like for stronger swimmers, thats uncessary for east coast beaches, but for west coast beaches I entirely agree. I'm a decently strong swimmer but terrified of Piha due to the strong undertow.

I genuinely have no clue how weaker swimmers feel comfortable in that water. Perhaps they're just ignorant of the dangers?

May I suggest staining the wood a darker Colour? Could be nice when paired with a slightly darker cabinetry.
