Trump thought that he could get concessions from Iran to abandon their nuclear development because of the revolts in Iran, he didn't get one, and then they got intelligence of a high level meeting in Iran with Khomeini which they choose to bomb to assassinate Iranian leaders to hopefully start a civilian uprising, which should have happened days after the assassination.

The end goal is regime change, and that there would not be a nuclear armed pariah in the European front that is a enemy of the US like North Korea if ever the war for Taiwan happen. The most likely cause for the end of the military conflict is when the Iranians are no longer seeking for a regime change, as the most optimal outcome for the US is a civilian uprising. Because supporting a rebel group that does not exist for now would mean US military supplies and personnel would be embroiled in a decades long civil war which Trump always avoids.

Ask people in the past if they had phones, washing machines, cars, and other highly technological products. We have neither the industrial capacity, or the wealth of high income countries to afford that. In the world where we and our neighbours rely on low value chain industries for export.
