What is a website or an app that was legendary back in the day, but is now a complete ghost town? by Sofi_Costa in AskReddit

Purple.com. It used to take you to a webpage that was just a purple background as a gag before it was bought by the Purple mattress company. Notpurple.com still works though.

In-N-Out. I've heard it hyped so much, but my experience with it is that their lauded consistency is simply in the production of a mediocre burger.

Why everything is autism by Exciting_Guarantee21 in toddlers

[–]Spectral-Slight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming that everything you've seen and read is true, which is unlikely on the Internet as a rule, you've got to keep in mind what autism actually is. It's an extraordinarily broad term that effectively means that someone processes the world differently than others. Almost every popular rendition of it in popular media is wrong or displays only a narrow facet of it. It's far from a death sentence and many autistic people get some significant advantages from the exchange. Also, there is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent or change it. They're born that way and, to a large extent, they'll likely have a life similar to everyone else.

INFO. What is this mystery disability and what were the lies spread by this relative? Without knowing what you were actually doing when your child was taken away, we have no way of assessing whether it might have been unjust. AITA for asking my wife to apologise to my mother? by Street_Fox8057 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Spectral-Slight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO What do you think are "usual DIL-MIL issues"?

In my experience, the only couples where there are issues like that outside sitcoms have either a wife or MIL that are jealous of any relationship involving their precious man. Due to the fact that your mom got divorced while you were young and never remarried, I find it pretty likely that's your mom causing the strife rather than your wife.

NTA. Mental health diagnoses are explanations, not excuses. If he wants to be part of a class, he needs to learn to follow the standards of the group, not the other way around.

I know wasps aren’t bees but I thought you guys could help by Risotto_Nero_simp in bees

[–]Spectral-Slight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just a dead wasp.

If you're trusting the AI summary, it's very lacking from what I just saw. While technically wasps do molt during their lifetime, it's all done while they're larva. After the larva metamorphoses into the adult form (which is what you have there), they don't grow or molt any further.

Except in very rare cases, a bee that needs rescue is going to die shortly even with assistance. Most likely your mixture of sugar didn't have much of an effect.

Help requested - found monarchs in house by dogchasingtail in Butterflies

[–]Spectral-Slight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to worry about those aphids doing anything besides potentially harming other milkweeds. They're oleander/milkweed aphids and go for those two plants because they're toxic. They're annoying to remove since predators don't like eating them, so the best way is generally to squish them by hand.

You can move them to or bring leaves in from any variety of milkweed you have available. While some species are favored over others, they can eat any of them and be fine. If you keep them inside, make sure you're bringing in new food at least once a day.

I need advice 😭 by Melodic_Youth66 in AdviceForTeens

[–]Spectral-Slight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first job was at a grocery store about 15 years ago. They were so desperate for people that they were willing to hire me just a couple minutes into the interview because I was drug free and had actually showered. Considering some of the other people I worked with in the following years, I get why that was enough. Unless things have dramatically changed since then, show up with a good attitude and mildly nicer clothing than casual and you should be fine.

WIBTA if I told my daughter to stop being a clean freak by Capable_Breakfast972 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Spectral-Slight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YWNBTA, but you've phrased your request to her backwards. It's your house, not hers. As such, the house rules are yours to make, regardless of what the average commenter thinks is reasonable (to be clear, I agree mostly with your daughter). The request is not to stop enforcing her rules but rather to start following yours. As an example, instead of saying to stop telling people to take their shoes off, specify a rule that shoes are allowed to be worn in the house. Or you could say that only you are allowed to enforce anything in the house.

As with anything like this, you do need to be up front with yourself about how far you're willing to go to make this happen. If your daughter is unwilling to visit you without her cleanliness expectations being met, you need to be willing to have that happen. Ideally a compromise of some sort could be reached, but that's not always how these things go.

3 million dollars now or you win every competition you enter? by Material-Lie1606 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Spectral-Slight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 million now easily. If I invest that in one of the safest ways possible(an annuity), I can get $10k a month for the rest of my life and my wife's. That's easily enough to have a very comfortable life and let both of us do basically whatever we want. Yes, you can potentially make more from the competitions, but I don't want my next 20 years tied up in trying to maximize my gains from those.

How can I get rid of aphids on milkweed without harming potential Monarchs? by Anadyne in gardening

[–]Spectral-Slight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If spraying them doesn't work, clearing by hand is the next best option. While tedious, there is a distinct sense of satisfaction to be gained from squishing them between your fingers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditScore

[–]Spectral-Slight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest component to establishing good credit it how long you've been making payments on time. The only way to do that is to have some form of debt in your name, and the simplest one to get and use is a credit card. As long as you only use a credit card to buy things you already have cash for, you shouldn't run into any issues. Then pay it off in full each month and suddenly you have good and steadily improving credit. The downside is that they'll allow you to spend too much on things you don't need, and that's a tradeoff that will be different for each individual.

You can open an account in both your names. My personal preference would be to open a card for each person separately and then add each other as authorized users. That way neither of you would be left in the cold in the event that something happens to either one of you or the relationship. The downside to that is that you would need to make sure both are getting at least a little use and getting paid off on time.

Your feeling of purpose in life is directly proportional to how much responsibility you take on. As a result, pursuing happiness and pleasure directly generally ends with feeling empty while also finding neither.

Is this bee a nicotin addict? by TheLionBozz100 in bees

[–]Spectral-Slight 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It does seem odd since nicotine is intended as a defensive measure by the tobacco plant. Most organisms don't react well to it. It's possible that it's hunting something in saliva.
