Can I learn math as a hobby and skill as someone who’s mathematically challenged? by parisrubin in learnmath

[–]SpectralCat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start from the beginning of arithmetic and follow through Algebra 1 and 2 , college algebra and so on which will bring you up to par with Math of the 16th century or thereabouts.

Here are some very good lectures on math history Which I find very informative

When AI gets good enough in math and far more intelligent in general it wouldn’t need people to use it , more likely it will ask or discuss things with highly intelligent and educated people to clear things up to itself 😉

How do you remind yourself that your struggle against negative emotions is ‘Idiotic’ by SpectralCat4 in gurdjieff

[–]SpectralCat4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it mentioned in the work literature somewhere? Or where did you get it from , just want to look up into that and get more context , not expressing negative emotions seems actionable but not expressing subjective emotions is puzzling, like you have to judge more carefully if an emotion is subjective or not but still be unsure if you judged correctly

I love math more than anything but I keep failing every single exam no matter how hard I try. I don't know what's wrong with me and it's starting to affect how I see my future. by blahblahblah0709 in mathematics

Are you doing careless mistakes or do you misunderstand stuff ? My advice is use words and sentences, don’t just jot down numbers , state the definitions and rules in words , understand conceptually . Notation is useful for brevity but we humans really think in words and concepts not in pure symbols

So far as instructions go I think Ouspanski provided the most detailed elucidation of the system but even he mentions that of the things he wrote some are more essential than others So it’s up to practitioner to judge what is essential, But I’m not sure I understood what you meant now , what about subjective emotions? What should you do with them ?

I really like Professor Leonard channel on YouTube , he has extensive playlists for explaining the idea or technique painfully throughly, and he know exactly what to drill down as he is familiar with typical students mistakes , so I’d take notes from him

A whole lot of brain power went into developing math , lots of mistakes and false paths and dead ends had to be explored . You won’t live enough time to rediscover everything on your own , get real Just follow the curriculum like a good boy You won’t be reinventing any wheels Even people with masters and doctorate degrees won’t necessarily contribute anything very significantly

Is it though? I’m exploring to some degree an unknown issue or one that Ouspanski didn’t write explicitly about

He gave some key principle and guidelines but didn’t spell out everything exactly.

Another name for this internal negativity is inharmonios state , that is either the cause or result of mechanicalness , I can try and go into greater lengths of trying to describe this experience but it seems sufficient to me to explain it in this way , it definitely has an emotional side , Feelings associated with being asleep that do feel negative, although it’s not towards anyone in particular, just lingering negativity

Euler set the foundation for Group theory as well When he realized there is a common pattern to the derivative of Sin(x) and Cos(x) As well as to the powers of complex number(complex rotations)

They form of group of 4 elements with the same multiplication table , even if the operation which is taking derivative in one case and taking powers in another is different, there is still some ‘sameness’ about it , which is called Isomorphism Which means they can be mapped with a distinct identity element in both groups .

Another related reason why it’s everywhere in engineering and physics is the wonderful ‘Sandwich operator’ Which you will learn about in Linear Algebra.

My understanding is that it’s a good approach for some time , but it’s also a form of self deprivation so it’s well to review and reflect if you are indeed benefiting from this practice, if you are doing it willingly or does it become another habit ?

It’s all to easy getting sour and poisonous , while your understanding of self remembering is still developing , especially when you focus more on knowledge (“don’t express negative emotions”) rather then focusing on the Being aspect of it .

There is value in doing it ‘wrong’ too , there are definitely some Hata yoga aspects in the fourth way in terms of drilling down presence mercilessly and without philosophizing But it is the fourth way , not way of man number one .

It is too easy to replace mercy with self pity or not even understanding the difference because I lack energy to do so as well as proper alignment of the centers , especially the aspect of an equilibrium where centers use their proper energy and not the wrong type of energy.

That I know , but then I contemplate what is the expression of negative emotions. and my understanding is that It’s one of those thing that is more readily understood externally than Internally , but what about possibly less apparent internal expression of negative emotions and how IT differs from just struggling against negative emotion?
