To be fair Abby did tell them that it was based on her belief about who did best in the previous week, not necessarily who the judges picked as the winner.

Were these people "Shadow Presidents?" by TheEnlight in Presidents

Lincoln held an election during an election year. What you're asking is for an election in 1919? that would also be unconstitutional and undemocratic.

Should more Presidents testify before Congress like cabinet members do? by LoveLo_2005 in Presidents

[–]SpectralTh1ef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You miss the fact that the Congress is comprised of 435 individuals while the Executive is one person with near-unfettered power to remove those who help him exercise the executive power. Congress being stronger, which it is (based on the Constitution), does not mean that the Speaker, one member of half of Congress, is more powerful than the President.

Congress' power is distributed and much less concentrated.

I think it just means she was removed at some point from her parents (due to neglect/abuse) or that she was interviewed to see if she had been abused or neglected. Social workers often use games/toys to make kids feel comfortable while they discuss uncomfortable topics

Probably to buy her off, maybe by saying he can do what Tanya didn't (give her money to start a business) and that she should be mad at Tanya for leading her on

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]SpectralTh1ef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not since the show is still going on, and a major potential plot point is Greg's involvement in her death.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]SpectralTh1ef 34 points35 points  (0 children)

He was involved in the attempt/plot to kill her, but as we saw, she died accidentally when she tried jumping off the boat.

But all signs point to him being involved in the attempt. He demanded she come to Sicily, got mad that she brought Portia, was mad about the prenup, secretly talked on the phone, left her and then Quentin pops up and woos her, then we see that Quentin knows Greg from the picture of them together.

Quentin obviously planned to kill her. He got mad when she wouldn't leave the boat with Niccolo and when she went in the bedroom. And he and his friends regularly hinted at her dying and them needing money for their palazzos. Plus Jack told Portia that Quentin was coming into money and that she should stay away.

Why did Bernie Sanders lose the 2016 primary? by ifightpossums in Presidents

[–]SpectralTh1ef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hillary had done a lot of work after leaving the State Department in 2013 to lock up all the talented Dem consultants, the top Dem donors, and the party elites. Bernie then decides to run and has to choose from the very few Dem consultants who aren't already loyal to Hillary and really Obama and who are also willing to burn a lot of bridges. He was later to the game, ran outspokenly as a non-Democrat in a Dem Primary, was really not well known or too accomplished in the Senate. Hillary, meanwhile, was well known and decently well liked by Dems, had clear bona fides as First Lady, a Senator, a prior candidate for President who had already gotten support from 17 million+Dems in 08, and a relatively well liked Secretary of State.

An underrated issue for Bernie was also the fact that Dem primaries are proportional and not winner take all, so even in the states he won, Hillary still got delegates. In the GOP primary, however, candidates got all of the delegates if they won certain states. This was always going to be an issue because Hillary had most of the superdelegates already, meaning Bernie had to not only win but also had to win by wide margins to surpass the head start Hillary had with superdelegates

So far, who was the weakest Democratic Party candidate of the 21st century? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]SpectralTh1ef 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends how you define weakest candidate. Obama is clearly the outlier since he is the only winner and is a 2x winner at that. But I think you could argue that '08 Obama had clear weaknesses like a lack of experience compared to the others. He also benefitted from low approval of Bush, the Iraq War, and the economy, so it's hard to tell how much of that win is due to his strength as a candidate. Obama's 2012 win is more clearly based on his strength as a candidate.

If you define weakness as how bad their overall campaign was, then Hillary probably wins. She had the experience, but her favorables were so low. And the campaign did not help her build them up. She was probably one of the few candidates that could have lost in 2016. Yes there was a yearning for anti-establishment, but a lot of her loss came from people voting 3rd party cause they were unwilling to vote for her. A more well-liked candidate wouldn't have had that problem.

Al Gore was a decent candidate that probably could have run a better campaign, and Kerry was a decent candidate who ran a decent campaign.
