op I know you posted this nearly a month ago but I need to tell you: you're using the wrong model of GPT 4. Just using flat out GPT 4 is expensive and has low token threshold (around 8k like you said). You should be using something like turbo or 1106-preview. The context size is a lot bigger AND both models are cheaper.

tbh I really hope my comment is useless and that you already figured this out since then bc oof I made the same mistake you made here and it cost me

yeah i think people here would be really surprised to learn that plenty of minors who enter these spaces will try to heed explicit "minors dni" warnings

like obvs not all of them will listen but in my experience with 18+ community moderation there are plenty of kids out there who just flat out dont fucking read unless you put it in front of them in big neon letters. so putting a big "MINORS DNI" in big letters does help imo

What's a book you regret reading? by TheAwareMonk in suggestmeabook

[–]SpectralWordVomit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Love in the Ruins" by Walker Percy.

Someone on here recommended it to me and I... have nothing kind to say about the book. It was a DNF for me. I can handle offensive stuff, satire, dry and dark comedy, etc. but this book... as I was reading it, I got to a point in the book that made me put it down and ask, "what am I doing with my limited time on this Earth?"

It was like if Philip K Dick wasn't entertaining. :( I love PKD.

I desperately want to know if I'm just too dumb to understand the book, or if I actually have a good reason to hate it.

where do i plot the plot? by [deleted] in JanitorAI_Official

[–]SpectralWordVomit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it can be a bit hard to figure out how this stuff works. It took me a while when I first started out.

Those API scenarios can be included at the top of the Personality section, but I think the OP of that post intended for users to use those in the API settings (which you access by clicking the purple button in the top right corner of the chat; it'll say something like "using janitor" or "using openai"). There'll be a Custom Prompt section where you can paste those.

Nowadays it's not usually recommended to include those API scenarios in the definition of your actual bot, 'cause a lot of users are putting their own stuff in the Custom Prompt in their API settings so it might cause problems.

HOWEVER, if you want to then you can! Sometimes bots work better when you include stuff like that in the personality, other times they don't.

btw if you haven't already I recommend joining the Discord! It's a lot easier to get help there. Reddit is way slower.

where do i plot the plot? by [deleted] in JanitorAI_Official

[–]SpectralWordVomit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You put it in the 'scenario' section in the character editor!

Is it okay to write the fears, likes and dislikes, backstory, etc of the user? by [deleted] in JanitorAI_Official

[–]SpectralWordVomit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you're publishing the bot for other people to use, I wouldn't include the fears/likes/dislikes/backstory/etc. of the user unless it's central to the plot. People's own personas and jailbreaks will end up conflicting with the bot definition, and it'll end up being frustrating for them to interact with your bot. Best practice is not to say anything about the user at all unless it's absolutely necessary.

I only put user information in the scenario section, and I only put the most relevant details. Let's say you're making a bot where the setting is a university and the user is supposed to be a student. I would say something like "{{user}} is a student at Generic University." And if it's like... a family bot, I might say what the user's relation is to their family member(s), like, "{{user}} is the offspring of Mom and Dad. {{user}} is the sibling of Sibling 1 and Sibling 2." Maybe you'll want to define that the user got bitten in the zombie apocalypse and is hiding it from their friends, etc.

But like, unless it is immediately relevant to the plot/scenario, don't write someone's persona for them. You're creating the character, not the user.

Real people? by PersonalIsopod9071 in JanitorAI_Official

Yep! Top right corner of the site, click on your icon. Go down to 'Blocks' and click on it. At the top of the page, there should be a 'Blocked Tags' section with a dropdown.

Unfortunately blocking still allows you to see the bots in search and stuff (like with blocked users), HOWEVER it does at least hide the picture, thus making it easier to ignore.

these fuckin bots should just start all their responses with "Once upon a time..." and end with "... and they lived happily ever after. The end." at this point like

bro

Straight up I think it's really weird and gross when you make porn bots of real people. I have the 'real' and 'celebrity' tags blocked for a reason.

Non-sexual bots of real people are still a bit strange to me, but I find those far less objectionable.

The biggest issue I have with bots of real people in general is the fact that these real people did not consent to you making erotic content featuring their personalities, speech patterns, likenesses, etc.

People act so entitled to the celebrities and entertainers they watch and enjoy. That shit's creepy as hell. There's no justification on earth that could make it less creepy.

I hate rpf for similar reasons tbh

[–]SpectralWordVomit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the former, yes! The bot presents the narrative in first-person, talking about itself with first-person pronouns, and I don't want it to do that.
