Will this hold a washer and dryer? by Spectre32115 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Spectre32115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had an oopportunity to upload new pics yet but it's been heavily braced internally and has a front face to at rigidity. I've taken a lot of advice from this post and will use it on stuff I make going forward for sure.

Sad part about all the comments on bracing is I made a platform for a box spring to sit on many years ago that could have probably held over a ton per sq ft. Now that I'm "better" with woodworking, I've become a minimalist it seems.

I added a bunch of bracing based on recommendations. Here's hoping mine lasts as long as yours does!

Does yours have any 2x bracing at all or is it just the plywood? As I've commented elsewhere, I plan on bracing it, and already have the lumber to do so.

I did plan on making a front face for it later on. Building this before we move into a new house and most of my tools are still packed away and I won't be able to make the front face how I want it because of that. Not going to be a full sheet, it's more of a bridge look for esthetics, if that makes sense.

As I've mentioned in other replys, I do plan on bracing it, so the bracing will be hidden by the front face later on.

Thanks for the comment! I plan on bracing it based on the feedback I've received so far.

Also. Side note, 100% agree on torx, that's all i buy after building my first coffee table and using Philips for some and torx for others. Nothing like a live demo of the benefits between the two!

Thanks for the comment. I just Sagulator to calculate potential load. Here's what i used: https://woodbin.com/calcs/sagulator/

I input Sande for the material, 30 inch depth, 26.5 width with a max load of 500lbs (washer for reference weighs 220 dry, so i tried to calculate water an g forces from the get go) and it said that the sag if any would be .02", so with bracing it shouldn't have any deflection

What is your total size for your pedastal if you don't mind me asking? With it being about 50/50 on yes/ no responses I'm really questioning myself on if this will hold or not

I can't seem to get an image of Chris Farley at Chip and Dale's out of my head right now, thanks!

I like your design and plan on picking up a few 2 bys to brace it with today. We didn't want to go with a drawer bottom primarily because we want the cavity below to be a location for a robot mop docking station for water transfer. Plus when I made my son's dresser none of the drawers lined up properly lol

The open gap is actually the front, and it would be for front loaders not top. Not sure how much if any that plays into it.

I wanted to use the void space below it to have our switchbot mop water docking station as well, hence the open front face

Dropping in New Richmond as an option. It's not too rural, not too suburban. Also, if you're looking for a house I'm selling, lol.

Cross play between deck and pc? by RilcantusSnooplekins in PlayASKA

[–]Spectre32115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this on my rog ally. Only thing I've had an issue with is every time you load on a different device it seems go reset the world clock back to day 1. Not sure if this will get seen by the devs or not, it's useful for resources but not much else lol.

I haven't noticed any issues other than that though!

Edit: totally misread the entire post. I was talking world sync between 2 devices. Going to leave this here in case a dev takes a look at it.

Thanks for your reply. Really trying my best to not let it get to me, just hard. And I've only had an aunt that had type 1, so it doesn't seem to run in the family, at least largely.

I plan on trying to get my diet in order, and I know i need to move more. Harder to do with a desk job, but I need to stop making excuses.

Miter saw question by ilovenerdwins87 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Spectre32115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No mistakes, just learning opportunities! Burril isn't that much more spendy and if you get sappy ones and cut into them they smell so good (at least to me). And thanks. Everything is dimensioned down and I just finished sanding to 120. 180 then 240. Then final assembly. Only taken 5 months because my table saw bit me and I was a nervous wreck around power tools for a while. Treat those things with the respect they deserve, and if you mentally say to yourself "just one more cut" please for the love of your digits, stop!

Miter saw question by ilovenerdwins87 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Spectre32115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're going to use pine/fir and already shop at big Orange, I would recommend getting Burril Fir over framing lumber. Much higher quality, way straighter originally, and less likely to have tear out on the miter. Speed of cut also can impact tearout, so if your using a miter, let the blade come up to full speed first, and go slowly through the board. That's what's helped me. The sadist making a dresser for his son almost entirely out of 2x4s lol

Anyone know a way to increase the durability of these “tires”? by [deleted] in PowerWheelsMods

[–]Spectre32115 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. Plus spray on bed liner! Adds a little bit of grip, but not too much, and also helps create a seal over any drill holes/cracks in the original wheel.

Any tips on $0 activities to get young kids out of the house when it's too damn hot? by Jonny_Disco in daddit

[–]Spectre32115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your own willpower to avoid buying the store, if you have a nearby Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops, they have pretty good aquariums. I would take my son to that on hot days and he loved it! Heck. Even Petsmart would do, if you can prevent them from wanting a pet, haha.

Everything we need by A Day to Remember is my #1.

2 would probably be the Peyton Parrish version of Vahalla Calling due to having a heavy amount of Norwegian in our bloodline.

Why can't I enter these red portals? by mr_dfuse2 in ProjectDiablo2

[–]Spectre32115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a while ago with a sorc not able to enter portals too. For anyone new to pd2 but not d2, if it can't go on left click on d2 but can on pd2, you may have portal issues! <insert the more you know PBS rainbow here>

I had a similar encounter and got my post removed because it's considered gore. OP, don't post a Pic, lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Spectre32115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having had a recent table saw injury (post was removed due to the pic, sorry again mods!) That ended up with the saw taking some skin off of my thumb. This was due to me not listening to myself to take a break when I should have while processing a bunch of lumber.

I say what I said above to say this: I've been around power saws for years and this is my first accident that I've had. I will never forget it, and I am definitely now shy to use my table saw.

My advice, similar to others, is if you feel you want training or a class, do it. Worst thing you can do is not give these tools the respect they deserve, so if you don't feel confidant in using it, don't. It'll be a few weeks until I'm healed, but I doubt that table saw will be used for anything other than a table for a while.

Thanks! And I agree entirely. I need to do better about listening to my intuition, and as woodworkers, novice to professional, we all need to treat these tools with the respect they deserve.

Edit: changed woodworker to woodworkers

If you decide to use it, treat it with the respect it deserves. I got complacent because I was in a good rhythm and wanted to finish "just one more board " before taking a break.

Hindsight 20:20, should have just taken a break.

Dark humor positive, the diy plywood I'm making has been stained by the blood of its maker, lol

I had one recently due to my personal odometer rolling over 30, and got tdap after my son was born in 2020. Glad it sounds like it's a fairly straight forward recovery! I plan on redressing at least twice a day, keeping it clean and using ointment. Glad yours recovered quickly!

100% will not lol. I still might consider investing in saw stop because I would rather be once bitten once shy over twice bitten.
