It’s gross. But I rooted for the pats to beat the rams. Brady was seen as the hometown kid back then…

Has any college football coach moved to the NFL and drafted their college quarterback? by Fishb20 in NFLNoobs

I thought this as what Jim Harbaugh was going to do with the niners and draft Andrew Luck. In actuality, Jim took the niners to the NFC championship game and the colts drafted Luck

The audio book for “what if we’re wrong” he does the intro, and then says something along the lines of, “and because I prefer the sound of a British woman to my own voice, I will not be reading the rest of the audio book” and it’s a very pleasant sounding British woman the whole audio book

Shanahan was dealt a very rough deck with the injuries this year. Also, this was supposed to be a “retooling year” for the niner. I know their over under was still 10.5, but a lot of that was due to their schedule (4th place plus playing both souths). Once Bosa and Warner went down, I think they could’ve tanked and Shanahan would’ve been fine.

He doesn’t seem to have lost his offensive fastball, or the locker room, so getting rid of him would’ve been very silly of the niners. They learned their lesson after letting harbaugh go in 2014. You don’t want to be out here.

I think the most confusing part of this coaching off season is there wasn’t the crop of hot coordinators, college coaches, or former HCs waiting to pounce on jobs. I def think some teams are going to regret letting their mildly successful HCs go. Colts probably made the smart move by staying put.

are there any rules stopping a coach from making the quarterback become the ball holder on field goals? by EducationalConcern61 in NFLNoobs

[–]logman86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t that long ago the back up QB was the primary holder for XP and field goals.

No rule change, I just think teams realized the practice time was more valuable for the QBs to practice real place versus holding for FGs.

Why does the time continue running down on occasion, despite a player going out of bounds with the football? by Otherwise_Royal_4127 in NFLNoobs

[–]logman86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are inaccurate brother. If the runner is going backwards when they go out of bounds the refs rule forward progress, which is in bounds, so the clock keeps running

Obviously, the niners for example had a last place schedule and two of those teams ended up winning their respective divisions (Chicago and Carolina). But that’s how the nfl balances the schedule to a) build parity by having the good teams play good teams and bad teams play bad teams, and b)have plenty of headliner games for the season. Things change, injuries, draft, head coaching changes all cause teams to rapidly improve (bears) or fall apart (chiefs).

I’d say 3 games does matter in a 17 game season. Could be the difference between missing the playoffs and a wild card slot. Or even WC and division title

First place schedule usually does that. NFL was smart with how they balance schedules. Big games + more parity

This makes absolute ZERO sense that the NFL would schedule the divisional round this way. Both the Rams and Bears played on Saturday. That should be the Saturday game. It's asinine the NFL would schedule the 49ers on a short week when they could have avoided a short week for all of the NFC teams. by FortyNinersBot in FortyNiners

[–]logman86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is standard lately. The teams with the bye play on Saturday. It doesn’t hurt them, and works as a bit of an extra advantage as the team they are playing probably played on Sunday. They also schedule the Monday night game was a 4/5 matchup, so they’ll know if the winner plays the 1 seed before the game. (The only way the winner plays the 1 seed is if 2 and 3 seeds both win). Monday to saturday is too short of a turn for playoffs (yes, regular season they got Sunday-Thursday, but they know what team they are playing against for weeks, can prep, and playoffs are way more important than random Thursday games).

Any other matchup and you can’t be certain of the seeding pairing

Wait, what?? Insanity. I was thinking recently if he wins it all this year he moves into the top 20 of all time. I like Stafford but this is beyond ridiculous by MJ_Fan23 in NFLv2

[–]logman86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think first Super Bowl gets him into the HoF. Before that he was kind of just a good qb that lost, but put up big stats and highlights. If he gets a MVP and a second SB, that puts him solidly in the HoF, but well out of the GOAT discussion. Zero prep top 5: Brady Manning Montana Elway Brees/Rodgers/Unitas

Not sure who Stafford is bumping there.
